Walmart India Appoints Devendra as Chawla as COO

Walmart India has roped in Devendra Chawla from Future Group as chief operating officer, as part of its larger strategy to strengthen its buying clout of consumer products, especially foods. Chawla, an Harvard alumnus, has worked with Asian Paints and Coca-Cola before joining Future Group in early 2009 to develop nearly three dozen in-house brands and was earlier head of Food Bazaar.
Walmart Plans 50 New Stores in India in 5 Years

Walmart has proposed to set up 50 new stores across the country in the next five years. This would include 10 stores in Telangana, for which the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government. The company will invest $10 million to $12 million per store. The company plans to set up about five stores in Hyderabad and the rest are expected to come up in other cities of Telangana including Karimnagar, Warangal and Nizamabad.
Walmart Partners with Amplus Energy to Provide Green Energy Across its Outlets in India

Walmart India is partnering with Amplus Energy Solutions to provide green energy across its wholesale outlets in India. The companies signing a power purchase agreement for 15 Best Price Modern Wholesale Stores located across five states, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. The total capacity that will be provided using rooftop PV plants located at these stores is approximately 5 MW. Once completed, these plants over their lifetime will help in saving 172,000 MT CO2, which is equivalent to planting 0.215 million trees.
