GainSpan Corporation Announces Low-Power, Apple HomeKit Reference Design for Wi-Fi-Enabled Smart Home Accessories
Aug 3 16
GainSpan Corporation announced 'hostless' architecture solution with support for Apple's latest HomeKit Accessory Protocol specification release. GainSpan's low power, Wi-Fi module solutions now offer embedded HomeKit support, including a complete Software Development Kit and a hardware reference design platform that has completed Apple's HomeKit certification. This enables product manufacturers to greatly accelerate their time-to-market for HomeKit-compatible accessories. HomeKit from Apple is a framework supported on iOS devices that enables secure communication and control of connected accessories in the home. GainSpan'sHomeKit Application Development platform is based on the new GS2200M mini module featuring GainSpan's custom Wi-Fi system-on-chip (SoC). This unique SoC architecture contains an integrated 802.11 b/g/n radio, dual integrated Cortex-M3 microcontrollers (MCU), extensive on-chip memory resources and a wide selection of digital plus analog interfaces that can be leveraged to host the entire HomeKit product application without need for additional external MCU's in the system, thus reducing overall product cost, complexity and power consumption. The GainSpan HomeKit Application Development Kit includes an SDK supporting Apple's HomeKit Accessory Protocol specification, application source code examples for creating HomeKit accessories and a hardware development platform based on the GS2200M module with electrical schematics and circuit board design details.
GainSpan and Partners Introduce Video Doorbell Reference Design
May 19 16
GainSpan Corporation, GEO Semiconductor Inc. and ON Semiconductor Corporation, has introduced a low-power, battery-operated video doorbell reference design capable of streaming high definition, or HD, video and two-way, telephony quality audio over Wi-Fi networks. Developed in response to the rapidly growing IoT market for video/audio streaming products in the home, the reference design platform speeds time to market and reduces product development cost and cycle times for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Through this partnership, customers benefit from the leadership each company has shown in its respective field: GEO Semiconductor's low power, highly integrated video encoder solutions, ON Semiconductor's image sensor solutions and GainSpan's expertise in low-power, cloud-connected Wi-Fi solutions. The solution features GEO's power-efficient MAX64380 video compression chip and ON Semiconductor's AR0330 CMOS image sensor integrated with GainSpan's GS2011M low power, Wi-Fi module on a small printed circuit board. The GainSpan GS2011M serves as the system host controller, running embedded streaming protocols and application software, also developed by GainSpan. The platform delivers crisp 1080p (1920x1080) HD video at 30 frames per second and utilizes the MAX64380's internal audio processing features to deliver high quality, full duplex voice audio with on-board acoustic echo cancellation and noise reduction. The platform is an ideal, low power and cost-effective reference design for internet-connected video doorbell and smart camera products. The platform's wireless connectivity features and software enable video and audio streaming directly to smartphones that use either iOS or Android operating systems or through cloud connections. The solution comprises hardware and software needed for engineers to quickly and simply add video and audio streaming capabilities into their IoT-based product designs, thereby reducing development costs and accelerating time to market. The GS-ADK-Video+FD Audio-1080p ADK is accompanied by a complete software suite, plus a series of sophisticated mobile Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and mobile demo applications for Android and iOS devices. The ADK is available through GainSpan and its distributors. Central to this solution is ON Semiconductor's AR0330 1/3-Inch optical format CMOS image sensor, which delivers superior imaging quality in low light conditions. Using its 2304 x 1296 active-pixel array, this device has the capacity to capture 3 megapixel (MP) still images. It also incorporates advanced on-chip camera features, such as column/row subsampling, windowing, mirroring and snapshot modes.
GainSpan, Omnivision, and Microsemi Announce Low-Power, Streaming-Enabled Audio and Video Reference Design for Smart Homes
Apr 6 16
GainSpan Corporation, in collaboration with OmniVision Technologies, Inc. and Microsemi Corporation introduced the GS-ADK-Video+FD-Audio reference design, a low-power, battery-operated reference design capable of streaming high definition (HD) video and two-way, telephony quality audio over Wi-Fi networks. The GS-ADK-Video+FD-Audio platform was developed in response to the rapidly growing IoT market for audio and video streaming products in smart homes, and is designed to help speed up customers' time-to-market by reducing product development costs and cycle times. Through this collaboration, customers benefit from each company's leadership in their respective fields: OmniVision's low-power video processor solutions; Microsemi's advanced audio analytics algorithms; and GainSpan's expertise in low-power, cloud-connected Wi-Fi solutions. The highly optimized IoT video and audio platform is the trio's first reference design collaboration, and sets a new standard for real-time, interactive imaging experience in home IoT products such as smart video doorbells, battery-operated cameras and baby monitors. The platform features OmniVision's ultra-compact and power-efficient OV788 video processor, Microsemi's Timberwolf™ ZL38051 advanced audio processor, and GainSpan's GS2011M low-power Wi-Fi module. Combined with GainSpan's embedded streaming software application, the platform delivers crisp 720p (1280x720) HD video at 30 frames per second (FPS) and high quality, two-way audio with acoustic echo cancellation and noise reduction over Wi-Fi networks. The GS-ADK-Video+FD-Audio Application Developer's Kit (ADK) is available through GainSpan and its distributors. The ADK targets connected video and audio streaming applications over Wi-Fi networks, allowing these applications to interface seamlessly with smartphones that use the iOS or Android operating systems. The ADK, which comprises hardware, a complete software development suite, and sophisticated mobile demo applications, gives engineers the ability to quickly add video and audio streaming capabilities to their IoT products, thereby reducing development costs and accelerating time to market. OmniVision's high performance video processors and CameraChip™ image sensors are central components in the IoT solution. The OV788 is an ultra low-power video processor with a built-in image signal processor (ISP) that works seamlessly with OmniVision image sensors, such as the OV9712 that is featured as a part of this ADK. The platform's advanced audio capabilities are enabled by Microsemi's Timberwolf ZL38051 audio processor. These capabilities include wideband acoustic echo canceller designed to provide excellent echo cancellation, noise reduction, beam forming and sound location detection for the increasingly demanding Internet protocol (IP) camera and wearable markets.
