Sciex and the Children’s Medical Research Institute Announce Opening of ProCan to Advance Precision Medicine

SCIEX announced that Children’s Medical Research Institute has opened ProCan™. The centre has been set up through an alliance with SCIEX and will enable large-scale proteome studies that will advance cancer research and ultimately aid in the promise of precision medicine. The opening of the Centre was marked by the ProCan Industrialised Proteomics Centre Symposium, a two-day event. Highlights from the event, including scientific presentations and workshop videos, can be accessed in the SCIEX online symposium portal. The ProCan project, which was established with a $10 million grant from the Australian Cancer Research Foundation and developed through partnership with SCIEX, will help to industrialize the process of analyzing tissue samples and identifying cancer biomarkers. This is being achieved at the centre on a suite of SCIEX TripleTOF® systems using a tissue-based method developed at Ruedi Aebersold’s lab at the ETH, Zurich, a method recently published in Nature Medicine. SCIEX SWATH® Acquisition technologies provide ProCan with exceptionally high sample throughput and will reduce the significant variability that is often associated with sample preparation. Furthermore, comprehensive data is produced with the speed, sensitivity, quality, and reliability that are urgently needed in precision medicine. The large-scale proteome studies being carried out at the centre will profile thousands of tumour samples per year, to identify and develop markers of disease risk, diagnosis, response to therapy, and prognosis on an industrial scale, while developing standard operating procedures for other facilities around the globe. The centre is equipped with a large suite of SCIEX TripleTOF 6600 mass spectrometers and NanoLC™ 400 LC systems, to create scale implementations of the SCIEX next-generation proteomics solution, featuring SWATH Acquisition and OneOmics cloud computing. Additionally, ProCan will also benefit from SCIEX’s exclusive collaborators, including Pressure Biosciences and Beckman Coulter, using pressure cycling technology and liquid handling workstations for increased sample preparation, throughput, and reproducibility. This collaboration with SCIEX enables ProCan to advance the vision to scale-up the process of finding causes of cancers, which is essential for earlier diagnosis and the development of new and even personalized approaches The Centre was officially opened in late 2016, with a ceremony during the ProCan Industrialised Proteomics Centre Symposium.
SCIEX Launches New Fast Glycan Labeling and Analysis Kit for Comprehensive Biopharmaceutical Characterization

SCIEX announced the launch of the new Fast Glycan Labeling and Analysis Kit for quantitative glycan analysis in biopharmaceutical characterization. Research Analysts challenged by time-consuming sample preparation and data analysis can now accelerate their workflow through rapid glycan release and labeling, followed by fast separation and quantitation, with immediate glycan identification via the SCIEX PA 800 Plus Pharmaceutical Analysis System. Averaging 1 hour for sample preparation, of up to 96 separations, the Fast Glycan kit can analyze glycans up to 5x faster than traditional HILIC methods. This enables researchers to quickly detect changes in glycosylation, helping them profile glycans that may effect changes in function, efficacy and clearance of their biologics. Automated glycan identification eliminates the need for manual, tedious glycan database searches, thus removing the potential for human error from the process. SCIEX’s solution enables researchers in analytical method development and QC labs to efficiently identify and quantify glycans associated with biologics, helping to ensure therapeutic efficacy. Proper glycosylation is critical for the efficacy, immunogenicity, and clearance of biologics as incorrect glycan species associated with a biologic, such as a monoclonal antibody (mAb), can lead to an increase and/or decrease in antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) or complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC). A lack of high-resolution glycan information – for example, the separation of fucosylated and non-fucosylated structures – can put patients and the researcher's organization at risk for unreliable results.
SCIEX Launches New X500B QTOF Mass Spectrometry System for Standardized Biotherapeutic Characterization

SCIEX announced their latest solution in the X-Series Quadrupole Time of Flight (QTOF) mass spectrometry (MS) platform. The newest X-Series model, the X500B QTOF System, brings simplicity, high-performance, and robustness for biotherapeutic analyses to one of the most compact MS system footprints on the market. The X500R QTOF System emerged in 2015 as the first LC-MS solution designed specifically for routine food, environmental and forensic testing, and introduced an entirely new industrial design, fully-loaded with easy to use software, methods and libraries, custom-designed for targeted customer applications. The X500R QTOF has since won awards and achieved accolades by industry leading laboratories and key opinion leaders. Like the X500R, the X500B QTOF System was specifically developed to deliver ease-of-use for high resolution standardized workflows, for biotherapeutic developers, who are required to fully characterize biologic products in large numbers during the development process.
