YMCA of the USA Establishes Character Development Learning Institute

YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) announced the establishment of the Character Development Learning Institute (CDLI), made possible by the generous support of the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation through a four year, $20 million grant. The CDLI will advance the Y's character development efforts across its youth programs through a collaborative and deliberate process of verifying, adapting, scaling and sharing evidence-based best practices. The Foundation's grant will help to support the CDLI's initial four-year launch phase, creating a comprehensive framework upon which to build an enduring institute and reinforce the organization's 170 year history of supporting the development of people from birth though career and beyond. The CDLI will provide the training, tools and knowledge necessary to equip adult practitioners to implement character development practices that can lead youth to make positive gains in school and life. Establishment of the CDLI commences immediately.

YMCA of the USA Announces Executive Changes

YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) has appointed Rebecca Bowen as Executive Vice President/Chief Development Officer and has promoted Jonathan Lever to Executive Vice President/Chief Membership and Programs Officer. Bowen, who worked for the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago early in her career, returns to the Y with 23 years of fundraising experience including executive positions with two global organizations, Panthera and The Nature Conservancy. At Y-USA, Bowen will be responsible for growing contributed revenue at the national level to scale life-changing programming across the YMCA network and create opportunities for individual YMCAs to enhance or expand their service to communities. Lever has been with Y-USA for more than 10 years, serving most recently as the Vice President of Healthy Living. Lever came to Y-USA in 2005 with an impressive background in philanthropic work.
