Iberdrola Renewables Secures Wind Power Deal with Southern California Utility

Iberdrola Renewables announced a 20-year contract to supply Southern California Edison (SCE), an Edison International company, with renewable energy from the El Cabo Wind Farm now under construction in Torrance County, New Mexico. SCE submitted the contract for review by the California Public Utilities Commission earlier this month. The 298 megawatt (MW) project will feature up to 149 wind turbines and is slated for commercial operation in the second half of 2017. Civil and road work is ongoing on the combined 56,000 acre project area comprised of state trust land managed by the New Mexico State Land Office and private property. The El Cabo Wind Farm has already put a number of local businesses to work, and is expected to provide at least $1.5 million in lease and PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) payments per year, for a total of at least $37.5 million over the 25-year life of the project. Iberdrola Renewables will make a PILOT payment of $1.1 million to Torrance County this year.

Iberdrola Renewables Announces Wind Power Agreement with California Utility

Iberdrola Renewables announced a 15-year contract to supply Southern California Edison (SCE), an Edison International company, with renewable energy from the planned Tule Wind Power Project in the McCain Valley of eastern San Diego County. SCE will purchase the entire output of the 132-megawatt (MW) wind farm, when the project is expected to be completed in late 2017. The Tule project will consist of up to 67 wind turbines located on nearly 14,000 acres residing in the county of San Diego and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land north of the town of Boulevard. The new project will produce enough energy to power the approximate equivalent of 40,000 average SCE households with enough clean energy to offset the greenhouse gas emissions of more than 50,000 cars each year. The Tule project is expected to deliver more than $39 million in local and state tax benefits over 25 years. The project has already committed to East County community donations of $600,000 at the start of the project, and between $1.5 million-$2.6 million to the community over the life of the project, which will support local health services, schools, cultural preservation, and recreational campgrounds on BLM land.

Amazon Web Services, Inc. Selects Iberdrola Renewables, LLC to Construct 208 MW Wind Farm in North Carolina

Amazon Web Services Inc. has selected Iberdrola Renewables, LLC to construct and operate a 208 megawatt, or MW, wind farm in Perquimans and Pasquotank counties, North Carolina, called the Amazon Wind Farm US East. This new wind farm is expected to start generating approximately 670,000-megawatt hours (MWh) of wind energy annually starting December 2016, or enough to power more than 61,000 US homes in a year. When completed, it will be the first utility-scale wind farm in the state of North Carolina, with the energy generated delivered into the electrical grid that supplies both current and future AWS Cloud data centers.
