ABB (China) Ltd. Key Developments

ABB Robotics Introduces the IRB 1200 Foundry Plus 2

ABB Robotics unveiled its latest foundry robot for material handling and machine tending, the IRB 1200 Foundry Plus 2. The smallest foundry robot in its class, this compact robot can increase flexibility and reduce cycle times for precision die casting processes such as smart phone cases and other electrical components. Now protected with Foundry Plus 2, ABB’s optional protection system, the IRB 1200 can withstand harsh environments and meets the requirements of protection ratings IP66/67. The IRB 1200 Foundry Plus 2 is IP66/67 compliant from base to wrist, meaning that the robot’s electrical compartments are sealed against liquid and solid contaminants. ABB Foundry Plus 2 robots are also unique due to their superior resistance to corrosion and capability to withstand high-pressure steam washing. First introduced in 2014, the IRB 1200 comes in two variants which can handle a wide range of applications and are cost effective due to commonality of parts. The 700 mm reach variant can carry a payload of up to 7 kg, while the longer reach 900 mm variant can carry up to 5 kg of payload. The IRB 1200 is also available with Clean Room protection.

ABB Introduces the IRB 1660ID, its Latest Compact Robot for Arc Welding and Machine Tending Applications

ABB Introduced IRB 1660ID, its Latest Compact Robot for Arc Welding and Machine Tending Applications. With Integrated DressPack design, Model IRB 1660ID enables users to program and simulate predictable cable movements. Strong, rigid upper arm, offering 1.55 m reach and payload of 6 kg, is able to accommodate heavy weld torches and provides optimized wire feeding control near arc for high-volume production. This, combined with TrueMove technology and Accuracy Mode, delivers 0.05 mm path repeatability. Combined 1,390 working range of axes 4, 5, and 6 provides agility inside CNC machines. The most versatile robot in the mid-size class will allow end-users to increase productivity and quality, with reduced cycle times. The Integrated DressPack allows the robot to move at maximum acceleration and speed, enabling fast and reliable movements ideal for machine tending applications. The risk of collision in confined spaces is also eliminated, and the combined 1,390 working range of axes 4, 5 and 6 provides outstanding agility inside CNC machines.
