R&B Plastics Machinery Unveils New MAX 1800 Series Injection Blow Machine Line

R&B Plastics Machinery LLC has announced the launch of the MAX 1800 series injection blow molding (IBM) machine line which is designed to provide trouble-free operation and easy maintenance. The company is introducing the MAX 1835 injection blow machine with a 135-ton injection clamp for production of a wide range of pharmaceutical and home and personal care bottles made of HDPE, LDPE, PET, SAN, and PP, among others. A bigger unit, the MAX 1880 with a 180-ton clamp, is in final design and is expected to be available in July 2016. The MAX 1835 IBM unit features a broad range of improvements that enhance operation and minimize maintenance including an innovative trigger bar locking mechanism that eliminates wear components that require regular service. The expected service life is four times that of competitive mechanical locking pistons. In addition, pre-fill valves for the injection clamp are externally mounted for easy maintenance and extra-large diameter transfer shafts provide long life and accurate position control due to a heavy-duty drive hub which is electrically driven for precise control. The five-inch tie-bar diameter for the injection clamp is larger than competitive models and resists breakage. Meanwhile, the MAX 1835 boasts a molding table which is plated for long wear and corrosion resistance unlike untreated competitive tables which are oiled and become oxidized. A high-density chrome finish minimizes damage when the mold slides in and out. A convertible cooling center of pressure provides maximum flexibility by simplifying the locating position for a customer’s competitive tooling. The electrical system is designed and built to rigorous IEC 61439-1 standards for short circuit protection. R&B offers both Siemens and Allen-Bradley control systems and both provide a 15-in touchscreen panel for set-up, data read-out, and recall of mold process settings. Temposonic linear position sensors for press sections, ejector, and extruder controls provide precise digital position input and are immune to electrical noise. The MAX 1800 series machines are available with remote access for easy process monitoring and diagnostic assistance. The MAX 1835 consists of a rigid steel frame and table construction and a three-station tie-bar design keeps all hydraulic components under the molding table. An air-pressure assisted lift-up style operator’s gate offers maximum safety. This allows access to the control panel at all times. An integrated locking mechanism in the operator gate’s handle is safer than gates utilizing chains or cables that are prone to break and allow the gate to drop unexpectedly. Dry cycle time is three seconds and machine output ranges from 1,500 bottles per hour to 4,000 bottles per hour. The new IBM unit is backed by the industry’s most reliable field service and technical support team.

R&B Plastics Machinery LLC announced the launch of a new high-volume MAX Series mechanical wheel blow molding machine. The new machine expands R&B’s wheel offering – which also includes rotary indexing wheels for calibrated finishes – and meets the packaging industry’s demand for high-volume equipment. The advanced system allows for the use of up to four parisons for high-volume production for all markets, according to Dave Corson, director of sales and marketing for R&B Plastics Machinery. The new MAX Series mechanical wheel matches the cycle time of competing systems but offers more parisons and thus increased cavitation and higher volume production. The standard platform is a 16-station machine with a range of mold lengths and widths (additional configurations are available). The parison die head is positioned between the mold faces and is continuously stretched from mold to mold for highly accurate bottle profile characteristics and repeatability. The die head can be configured for monolayer, multilayer, and multi-parison extrusion to meet customer requirements. A mold change mechanism is integrated into the machine for easy tool changeover. Water and air mold connections utilize O-ring face seals for quick change and fool-proof connections. Advanced electrical controls allow for ramping of molder and extruder speeds, product monitoring (including in-machine video), material supply, and safety and downstream equipment inspection. Recipe storage for every product run can be easily recalled for reduced setup time. Machine output ranges from 6,720 bottles per hour for a single-parison unit to 26,880 bottles per hour for a quadruple parison system. A dual-parison unit produces 13,440 bottles per hour while a triple-parison unit has an output of 20,160 bottles per hour. The MAX Series mechanical wheel blow molding machine is in commercial use. A leading global packaging fortune 500 company has purchased a 16-station multilayer system and is currently producing containers for the food industry.

R&B Plastics Machinery Launches New Max Extrusion Control System at NPE 2015

R&B Plastics Machinery LLC has announced the launch of a cost-effective extruder control system which delivers performance that is comparable to that of higher-end systems. R&B Plastics MAX Extrusion Control System utilizes an economical Windows CE-based Human Machine Interface (HMI) system that offers performance similar to SCADA software systems. R&B Plastics will feature the new control system at NPE2015: The MAX advanced control platform, featuring Allen Bradley and Ifix systems, provides integrated line control for all extrusion applications including pipe, profile, tubing, sheet, reclaim, compounding, fiber, and film. R&B designs the MAX control systems to customer specification, including end users’ process requirements and preferred supplier hardware. The MAX Control System can be retrofitted for all makes and models of extruders. It can also be used with R&B’s MAX extruder product line. The MAX Extrusion Control System also allows for control of temperature, speed, amperage, and pressure of the extrusion system with the touch of a screen. Seamless integration of upstream and downstream equipment is also available. The custom system also features logging of up to 100 variables to a USB memory stick in .CSV file format, printing of customized production data screens, and unlimited recipe storage, reporting, and multi-level security access groups with users configurable at run time. The MAX system provides real-time run data, allowing for operator line control and supervisory access to all production/process parameters. Other key features include heat zone and melt pressure names configurable at run time and single-button melt pressure transducer calibration. The PLC-based extrusion control system features an open architecture which utilizes off-the-shelf components, thus giving end users easier troubleshooting and component replacement. The MAX Control System uses a large, HMI touch-screen display which makes control functions clearly visible. A 17-in operator screen utilizes intuitive commands and color graphics with customized drawings and easy-to-read screen buttons.
