X2 Biosystems and Trifecta Solutions LLC have been awarded a contract from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command facilitating the Army's evaluation of X2 Biosystems' world leading, comprehensive software and sensor suite for the detection and management of concussive and other traumatic brain injuries. The contract was awarded through the Rapid Innovation Fund (RIF) Program, which allows the Department of Defense (DoD) to fund programs that facilitate rapid adoption of innovative technologies into military systems and programs that meet critical national security needs and have a demonstration path into a defense acquisition program. The award underscores the Army's focus on addressing traumatic brain injury (TBI) because it continues to be a significant issue for service men and women due to injuries that occur during training and military operations. The Army has noted that combat medics need to be able to accurately and objectively assess soldiers with mild to moderate TBI up to 24 hours post injury, improving diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to duty. Ultimately, the Army's goal is to ensure more rapid and appropriate treatment of service people to improve short and long term outcomes of mild and moderate TBI.
