L3 MAPPS to Supply Digital Control Computer System Hardware for Bruce Unit 6, Supporting Life Extension and Continued Low-Cost Nuclear Power

L3 MAPPS announced that it has won a contract from Bruce Power to replace the existing Bruce B Unit 6 Digital Control Computer (DCC) system with all-new hardware. Three DCCs will be delivered to Bruce Power. The first unit (DCC-Z) will be used as a maintenance platform and is due to be installed in the first quarter of 2018. The other two DCCs (DCC-X and DCC-Y) are redundant units for plant operations and are expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2019. DCC systems are used to monitor and control the major reactor and power plant functions at CANDU nuclear power plants. The new DCC system will feature the latest SSCI-890 CPUs and will replace the legacy Varian V72 computer systems and related equipment to ensure continuous, safe and reliable performance over the service life of the plant.

L-3 MAPPS secured Orders to Update the Fermi 2 Simulator Fermi 2 Nuclear Plant Simulator Fermi 2 Nuclear Power Plant. The updates include enhancements of select plant models and replacement of the audiovisual (A/V) system on the full scope operator training simulator, along with the addition of a new classroom simulator. The projects are ongoing and are scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2017. The company will also augment the full scope simulator by delivering a classroom simulator with three bays of Orchid Touch Interface equipment. Each Orchid Touch Interface bay will be equipped with four large touch screen monitors with 1080p full HD resolution to display and operate enhanced virtual panel graphics of the simulated control room.
L-3 MAPPS to Supply Full Scope CANDU Simulator for Wolsong Unit 1

L3 MAPPS announced that it has secured a contract from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. Ltd. (KHNP) to supply the full scope operator training simulator for the Wolsong Unit 1 (Wolsong 1) nuclear power plant. The project will start immediately, and the simulator is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2018. The Wolsong 1 full scope simulator will use L3's PC/Windowsbased graphical simulation tools for the plant models and instructor station. All of the plant systems will be simulated, including the reactor, nuclear steam supply systems, balance of plant systems, electrical systems and I&C systems. The simulator's models will be developed, validated and maintained in L3's Orchid® simulation environment. The plant computer systems, known as Digital Control Computers (DCCs), will be represented by a fully emulated dual DCC that will be integrated in the full scope simulator. The simulator will be equipped with full replica control room panels driven by L3's Orchid Input Output software and a new compact input/output system. The new plant models will also be complemented with severe accident simulation capabilities by including a version of the Modular Accident Analysis Program, known as MAAP4CANDU, L3's first implementation of severe accident simulation for CANDU plants. The simulator will additionally be equipped with new twodimensional and three dimensional animated, interactive visualizations of the reactor vessel and containment building to provide trainees further insight into the behavior of the plant during severe accidents.
