WGL Energy Services announced that the Pennsylvania Department of General Services has signed a three-year contract for Green-e® Energy certified wind renewable energy certificates (RECs) sourced from wind farms throughout the United States. The Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS) helps PA state government operate more efficiently, effectively and safely by providing shared services to support the business operations of all agencies of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability, DGS will match almost 400,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of its electricity load with national wind RECs under the contract which ends in 2018. This is equivalent to taking more than 55,000 cars off the road for one year. DGS will be increasing the match of RECs to the electricity usage of its executive agencies from 10% to 30% over this 3-year contract.
