Telecom Italia S.p.A. (BIT:TIT) management would explore a possible tie-up between Tim Brasil Serviços e Participações S.A. and Oi SA (BOVESPA:OIBR4). "The next steps, if there are to be any, will be submitted to the board for approval, following the opinion of the committee of independent directors," the group said in a statement after a Board meeting.

Tim Brasil Serviços e Participações S.A. has denied rumours that its competitors laro Telecom Participacoes, S.A., Vivo Participacoes S.A and Oi SA (BOVESPA:OIBR4) have reached an agreement to buy TIM, stating that its directors and controller, Telecom Italia S.p.A. (BIT:TIT), are not involved in any negotiations for its sale, and have no knowledge of any such agreement.

Telecom Italia S.p.A. (BIT:TIT) has denied the rumors of receiving offer to sell Tim Brasil Serviços e Participações S.A. According to the reports, America Movil S.A.B. de C.V. (BMV:AMX L), Telefónica, S.A. (CATS:TEF) and Oi SA (BOVESPA:OIBR4) have agreed to launch a $13 billion bid for Telecom Italia's controlling stake in TIM Brasil. Marco Patuano, Chief Executive Officer, said the company had not received any offer for TIM Brasil. "We have a major investment programme in place and have just participated in the auction for 4G services," he said. Giuseppe Recchi, Chairman, also said that no takeover offers had been received for TIM Brasil. Telefonica Brasil, S.A. (BOVESPA:VIVT4) also confirmed in a statement issued to the Brazilian securities regulator that it was not involved in any talks related to a joint bid for TIM Brasil, while Oi said it had engaged BTG Pactual to act as its agent to come up with a bid for TIM Brasil but that no understanding or agreement had yet been reached.
