Al Jazeera America announced that Heather Allan will join the network as Senior Vice President of News Gathering. A long-time American news veteran, Ms. Allan will be responsible for overseeing all of AJAM's news coverage. Ms. Allan worked for 30 years at NBC, including as West Coast Bureau Chief, before joining Al Jazeera English in 2009 as Head of Global News Gathering. AJAM's current news gathering head, Amir Ahmed, will assume the role of Senior Vice President of News Planning. Mr. Ahmed will be responsible for the strategic planning and delivery of AJAM's high-quality news content. In her previous role at Al Jazeera English, Ms. Allan managed all global news coverage for the network's 34 bureaus across the world. She played a key role in launching AJAM in 2013, setting up all of the channel's domestic bureaus and recruiting news staff for each location.
DIRECTV Agrees to Settle Carriage Lawsuit Dispute with Al Jazeera America

DIRECTV agreed to settle its carriage dispute with Al Jazeera America, ending its lawsuit over the issue. DIRECTV sued Al Jazeera America in July 2014, claiming that the network breached a clause on their contract by giving better distribution deal terms to one pay TV operator without granting the same privileges to others. In June, the operator raised the damages claim in the suit to $74.5 million from $28.5 million.
Al Jazeera America Announces Executive Changes

Al Jazeera America announced a new chief executive. Named CEO was Al Anstey, who has been managing director at Al-Jazeera English and prior to that headed foreign news for the British network ITN and US-based CBS. The change, effective immediately, replaces interim CEO Ehab Al Shihabi who was responsible for launching Al Jazeera America in 2013.
