Nielsen Audio Inc. Plans to Close Columbia Call Center in Columbia

Nielsen Audio Inc. plans to close its call center operations in Columbia, a move that will result in 325 layoffs. Nielsen, which acquired Arbitron in 2013 for $1.3 billion, disclosed the job cuts on May 8, 2014 The new round of layoffs come six months after Nielsen said it would cut 333 jobs at its offices on Patuxent Woods Drive. In all, around 100 employees will remain at Nielsen's Columbia office. The office once employed more than 750 workers. The call center is scheduled to close on August 31, 2014.

comScore announced that, in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's Decision and Order dated September 20, 2013, it has signed an agreement to acquire and license certain assets related to cross-platform audience measurement services of Nielsen Audio, including television and radio data collected through the Portable People Meter (PPM). This agreement enables continued inclusion of certain Nielsen Audio data in comScore's cross-media measurement solutions. As outlined by the FTC, the agreement 'requires Nielsen to sell and license, for at least eight years, certain assets related to Arbitron's cross-platform audience measurement services to an FTC-approved buyer'. The agreement ensures that the acquirer 'will get everything it needs to replicate Arbitron's participation in a national syndicated cross-platform audience measurement service'.
