PGNiG Files Lawsuit Against OAO Gazprom and OOO Gazprom Export with the Stockholm Court of Arbitration
Feb 3 16
PGNiG has revealed that on 1 February that it filed a lawsuit against OAO Gazprom and OOO Gazprom Export with the Stockholm Court of Arbitration. The lawsuit is an element of proceedings initiated by PGNiG regarding change of pricing conditions of the long-term natural gas supply contract concluded in 1996. The aim of its recent actions is to adapt the contract to the current situation on the European gas market. Due to the confidential nature of the case, the firm refuses to disclose details on the lawsuit and the claim. The conflict regarding gas supplies between Poland and Russia started in 2014. PGNiG demands that the price of the resource be cut due to the huge slide in price of oil, which gas prices are tied to. Gazprom refuses to do so and demands that Poland continue to buy the gas at the original price. PGNiG fears that if the price remains high, customers will turn to alternative suppliers, which would pose a threat to the firm's business.
