Biomasse Heizkraft Pfaffenhofen filed for insolvency in May 2013 due to high indebtedness to banks. Local daily Donaukurier reported on August 1, 2013 that a number of investors are interested in acquiring Biomasse Heizkraft Pfaffenhofen. One of the potential buyers is a local consortium made up of the Pfaffenhofen municipality and the nearby city of Ingolstadt. There is also interest from other investors, including E.ON Energie AG.
