Health Canada announced that it is advising consumers that Shoppers Drug Mart is recalling one lot of Alesse 21, an oral contraceptive that was provided to consumers in Western Canada after the expiry date (September 2014). Efforts have been made by pharmacies to contact affected patients. Consuming products beyond their expiry may lead to reduced effectiveness. Who is affected: Consumers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba who have purchased or used Alesse 21, lot G73720 with the September 2014 expiry date between March 16 and April 1, 2015.

Shoppers Drug Mart Opens the Fourth Enhanced beautyBOUTIQUE(TM)

Shoppers Drug Mart unveiled its enhanced beautyBOUTIQUE(TM) at Chinook Centre. Featuring 21 prestige brands, this will be the fourth Shoppers Drug Mart location in Canada to offer customers an elevated prestige beauty experience. The 5,000 square-foot beautyBOUTIQUE features new fixtures, digital signage, enhanced fragrance and derm areas and provides customers with a luxurious retail environment complemented by a wide assortment of prestigious brands. The design was inspired by a gift box and the idea of unravelling a ribbon to reveal the present. The ribbon concept can be seen in the elements of the store design including the digital signage wrapped around the boutique and the finishing elements extending over the fixtures to the ceiling. The boutique's design allows customers to feel comfortable browsing in an environment that is modern, sleek and interactive while also catering to their need to complete their shopping quickly. In addition to a newly designed beautyBOUTIQUE, the renovated store at Chinook Centre will continue to offer a wide assortment of health, beauty and convenience essentials including the full service pharmacy and a Canada Post outlet.

Domenic Pilla to Leave the Position as President of Shoppers Drug Mart by the End of 2014

Loblaw Companies Limited announced that Domenic Pilla, President of Shoppers Drug Mart, is leaving by the end of 2014. He played a pivotal role in the negotiation of the agreement to acquire Shoppers Drug Mart in 2013, and since then Domenic has been actively engaged in driving Shoppers Drug Mart's business to deliver on its plan. As well, Domenic has been focused on working with the team to ensure the realize the synergies identified for the combined businesses as a result of the acquisition. Domenic is leaving as he would like to continue his career by pursuing opportunities to lead a widely-held public company. For the balance of the year, Domenic will remain as President of Shoppers Drug Mart and be fully engaged in the business. In addition to his normal duties, Domenic will work very closely with Galen G. Weston to deliver on several important initiatives, including the transition to a new President of Shoppers Drug Mart.
