Japan's SoftBank Group is prepared to give up control of print to Deutsche Telekom 's T-Mobile to clinch a merger of the two U.S. wireless carriers. SoftBank has not yet approached Deutsche Telekom to discuss any deal because the U.S. Federal Communications Commission has imposed strict anti-collusion rules that ban discussions between rivals during an ongoing auction of airwaves.

T-Mobile Suggests That It Could Discuss A Merger Soon

T-Mobile US, Inc. (NasdaqGS:TMUS) merger talks to begin as early as April 2017. John Legere, Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile US, said, “T-Mobile merger talks could begin as soon as April, 2017. Nobody is talking right now. I've got news for you. I couldn't be more excited about the period that's going to come up when this auction is over.” SoftBank Group Corp. (TSE:9984) is the most likely suitor, but Comcast Corporation (NasdaqGS:CMCS.A) is another potential candidate. DISH Network Corporation (NasdaqGS:DISH) could be involved in a T-Mobile deal.
