News-O-Matic announced that it has partnered with MetaMetrics® to deliver daily news at a variety of readability levels for elementary and middle schools. The partnership allows News-O-Matic to deliver grade-appropriate nonfiction content, giving educators access to a differentiated instruction resource via in demand informational text. News-O-Matic has always been a leader in student literacy engagement. With more than a million comments, votes, and drawings from its young readers, the app gets youth involved with stories from across the globe. Videos, photos, audio support, and interactive maps contribute to the students' understanding of world events. Now Lexile measures helps bring this interactive experience to readers with a range of abilities so all children can become empowered global citizens. News-O-Matic uses the Lexile Analyzer tool to evaluate the complexity of the texts, which cover breaking world news, science, sports, arts, and more. The Lexile Analyzer determines the difficulty level by breaking down each unique passage and studying its syntactic and semantic challenges that the text presents to a reader. The outcome is the text complexity, expressed as a Lexile measure. Most News-O-Matic articles receive a variety of Lexile measures between 400L to 1,000L.

Think Through Math Enters into Agreement with MetaMetrics

Think Through Math announced that it has entered into an agreement with MetaMetrics. Under the terms of the agreement, the Quantile Framework will now be integrated with the TTM supplemental math curriculum, providing invaluable insight into a student's readiness and ability to learn more advanced mathematical skills and concepts. This collaboration will impact more than 2.6 million students across the U.S. who currently use Think Through Math in their classrooms. Students will receive Quantile measures from the assessment component of TTM beginning in the 2015-16 school year. These student Quantile measures will provide guidance on which mathematical topics the students are ready to learn. Each lesson in the TTM adaptive curriculum will also receive Quantile measures that will indicate the difficulty of mathematical skills and concepts. With both the students and curriculum receiving Quantile measures, students will be assigned content that is tailored to their abilities and that can help improve their skills.

MetaMetrics Offers Two Major Enhancements to The Quantile Framework for Mathematics

MetaMetrics recently introduced two major enhancements to its Quantile Framework for Mathematics. The Quantile Framework, which targets instruction and forecasts understanding by placing mathematics curriculum, resources and students on the same scale, now provides more precise measurement and differentiated instruction for students in the early grades. Secondly, the Quantile Framework, which includes over 500 Quantile Skills and Concepts (QSCs), has been augmented with over 80 new QSCs to ensure the Framework covered all concepts encompassed in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This expanded and comprehensive set of QSCs ensures that teachers will find resources and tools to help their students be college and career ready. To highlight these two enhancements, a new Quantile map has been developed that provides example QSCs at the early grades as well as QSCs that are aligned with the CCSS. With the Quantile Map, educators can explore the interconnectedness of mathematical skills and concepts and identify those skills and concepts that are critical for progressing student learning. The Quantile Framework for Mathematics is a unique measurement system that uses a common scale and metric to assess a student's mathematical achievement level and the difficulty of specific skills and concepts. The Quantile Framework describes a student's ability to solve mathematical problems and the demand of the skills and concepts typically taught in kindergarten mathematics through Algebra II, Geometry, Trigonometry and Precalculus. Quantile measures take the guesswork out of instruction by describing which mathematical skills and concepts the student has learned and is ready to learn. Educators and parents can use Quantile measures to connect the student with resources that meet his or her unique learning needs and to determine if the student is on track to pass year-end assessments and be ready for the demands of college and careers.
