SilkAir reported production results for the second quarter and first half of 2014 and earnings results for the first half 2014. SilkAir's operating profit declined $17 million (-77.3%), as weaker yields (-5.0%) put a drag on revenue and capacity injection (+3.7%) pushed operating expenditure up. For the quarter, the company reported passenger carried was 855,000 against 826,000 a year ago. Revenue passenger-km was 1,435.7 million against 1,356.0 million a year ago. Available seat-km was 2,054.0 million against 1,965.0 million a year ago. Passenger load factor was 69.9% against 69.0% a year ago. For the half-year, the company reported passenger carried was 1,725,000 against 1,690,000 a year ago. Revenue passenger-km was 2,844.9 million against 2,730.0 million a year ago. SilkAir to Launch Flights to Cairns, Australia

SilkAir is to launch direct flights between Singapore and Cairns on 30 May 2015, subject to regulatory approvals. SilkAir plans to operate the Cairns service three times weekly on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, through circular routings with Darwin. The inaugural flight and subsequent Saturday flights will depart Singapore for Cairns non-stop and then return to Singapore via Darwin. The Monday and Thursday flights will fly to Cairns via Darwin and then return to Singapore non-stop. The new services will be operated with SilkAir's latest Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy class cabins.

SilkAir to Launch Daily Flights to Bali

AsiaTravelTips.com revealed on October 31, 2014 that from 12 December 2014, SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will begin daily flights to Denpasar, Bali. The new flights are subject to regulatory approval.
