Prysmian Group Partners with Berk-Tek to Demonstrate Extended Distance 40Gbps Transmission Using WideCap-OM4 and Bi-Directional QSFP+ Modules
Sep 21 15
Prysmian Group partnered with Berk-Tek to demonstrate 300m 40Gbps transmission utilizing Prysmian's WideBand MMF, WideCap-OM4, and commercial WDM transceivers. While Data Center markets are rapidly adopting higher data rates (40GbE/100GbE), the demand for longer-reaching, high-performance cabling increases. Wideband MMFs and WDM transceivers are a promising solution to meet these challenges while still providing margins for capacity increase to 400Gbps. There is significant effort in the industry to increase the capacity of MMFs. One such activity is to develop WideBand MMFs capable of WDM transmission using high speed VCSELs between 850-950nm. Berk-Tek successfully transmitted 40 Gigabit Ethernet traffic over 300m error-free over a duplex WideCap-OM4 link. This transmission was accomplished using 40GE Bi-Directional QSFP+ Ethernet optical modules, and a Berk-Tek duplex cable configured in a 2-connector channel consisting of Prysmian WideCap-OM4 fiber. The traffic was generated and verified by an Ixia XM2 chassis outfitted with Xcellon-LavaTM Dual-Speed, 40/100GE Higher Speed Ethernet Load Modules.
Nexans Opens New Facility in Goose Creek, South Carolina
Oct 10 14
Nexans has opened its Goose Creek facility in South Carolina. The plant will produce high voltage power cables and is expected to create 200 manufacturing jobs over the next few years. The 350,000 square foot plant (32,500 m2) near Charleston will serve the growing demand for HV power systems in North America fueled by major new power transmission infrastructure projects. The plant will focus on the engineering, design and installation of HV cables. The new 427 feet (130 meter) Vertical Continuous Vulcanization tower on site, used for converting polymers into insulation layers in order to protect the cable, is now the tallest building in South Carolina. The plant is equipped with the facilities for type testing cables up to 550 kV according to North American and international standards. The new plant in South Carolina will reinforce Nexans current product range in North America, adding to the existing medium voltage, low voltage, overhead transmission, industrial, building wire, electrical wire and Local Area Network (LAN) portfolios.
