Claro Brasil Expands 4G LTE Footprint in Marlia in Sao Paulo State

Claro Brasil has activated a 4G LTE network in the city of Marlia in Sao Paulo state. This is the 97th locality in Claro's geographic area to receive the carrier's 4G LTE network and the 31st in Sao Paulo state alone. The technology is available to clients of any plans and modalities prepaid, postpaid or control. Customers in the city will also be able to join Claro's Internet Turbinada, which offers free access to WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter.

Claro Brasil has expanded its national 4G LTE coverage to 93 municipalities, just five fewer than that of market leader Vivo. Claro activated the first 4G network in the Rio de Janeiro state city of Petropolis. Vodafone Group Public Limited Company (LSE:VOD) is said to be considering acquiring one of Brazil's top three mobile carriers, Brazilian paper O Estado de S. Paulo reported. The top three operators are Telefonica's Vivo Participacoes S.A., America Movil's Claro S.A. or Telecom Italia'sTim Brasil Serviços e Participações S.A., which each hold over 20% of the local market. The most likely candidate for a buyout is TIM Brasil, which has been the subject of rumors of a sale by Telecom Italia for several months. According to the reports, Vodafone is not interested in participating in Brazil's mobile telephony sector through the acquisition of 4G licenses in the upcoming 700MHz auction, as expected by the government, but instead through the acquisition of companies.
