LaCie SA Key Developments

LaCie Doubles Capacity of Rugged Thunderbolt SSD

LaCie announced that its iconic Rugged Thunderbolt storage solution will be available in a 1 TB SSD capacity. With double the storage, the new LaCie® Rugged is just as portable with no size or weight increase compared to the 500 GB offering. Plus, it still features the lightning-fast transfer rates of Thunderbolt and is tough in the field with shock, dust and water resistance. The LaCie Rugged delivers speeds of up to 387 MB/s three times faster than a standard mobile hard drive. With these speeds, creative professionals can transfer 100 GB in less than five minutes. The LaCie Rugged even provides enough bandwidth to review and edit photos or video in the field. With a laptop and a LaCie Rugged, a photographer or videographer has everything they need to back up footage or complete a project on location. This time savings and convenience is key for field-based professionals. The LaCie Rugged is MIL-compliant, which means that data is protected even during accidental drops of up to 2 meters (6.6 feet). With its cap in place, the LaCie Rugged is also IP 54-rated for superior protection against dust and water splashing even during operation. Plus, it is resistant to vibration and shock and is tough enough to be shipped for reliable delivery to clients or partners. With both Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces, the LaCie Rugged is an ideal match for Mac® and PC users. The LaCie Rugged is fully bus powered through the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 cables. Plus, the integrated Thunderbolt cable stows neatly when not in use, ensuring that it will never get lost or left behind.

LaCie Announces USB-C Reversible Connector on Porsche Design Mobile Drive

LaCie announced the addition of USB-C technology to its Porsche Design Mobile Drive. This product combines the ease of use of USB-C with the proven speed, style and durability of the LaCie Porsche Design line, making it the perfect match for the latest MacBook. LaCie Porsche Design Mobile Drive featuring USB-C Technology. The LaCie Mobile Drive features a USB-C port the user-friendly connector of the future. This new technology makes the LaCie Mobile Drive incredibly easy to connect, since both ends of the cable are identical and the connector is reversible. As a result, there is no need to worry about which end goes to which device or about plugging it in upside down. The LaCie Mobile Drive blends form and function, resulting in a product that looks and works great. Its USB 3.0 interface delivers up to 100 MB/s, which lets users quickly back up or exchange photos and videos with friends. The LaCie Mobile Drive also features an enclosure made from 3 mm-thick solid aluminum. This gives users the confidence to slip the product into their laptop bag and hit the road.

LaCie Announces Latest Evolution of d2 Desktop Storage Line

LaCie announced the latest evolution of its d2 desktop storage line. Trusted by creative professionals for a decade, the latest LaCie(TM) d2 features a new all-aluminum unibody enclosure, dual Thunderbolt(TM) 2, and USB 3.0. Plus, as an industry first, LaCie designed the d2 Thunderbolt 2 to be upgradable to the fast SSD on the market, which boosts speeds up to 1,150 MB/s. Bringing together exceptional speeds and smart industrial design, the new LaCie d2 builds on its reputation for high performance and reliability. The new LaCie d2 combines the latest interfaces and a Seagate 6 TB 7200 RPM professional hard disk, resulting in speeds of up to 220 MB/s. This speed makes it possible to significantly reduce backup and transfer times as well as store and browse a massive RAW Adobe(R) Lightroom(R) library with zero lag. High performance plus industry-best capacity makes the LaCie d2 an ideal solution for storing large files and archiving projects. The dual Thunderbolt 2 ports let the user daisy chain up to six devices to a single Thunderbolt port on a computer. Plus, since Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 are backward compatible, the user always gets the best speeds that their computer allows. To multiply speeds by a factor of five, users can install the LaCie d2 SSD Upgrade (sold separately). The upgrade increases speeds up to 1,150 MB/s and adds 128 GB of PCIe SSD storage. This speed exceeds the performance of even the internal SSD on a late-model PC or Mac(R) computer. Simply remove the LaCie d2's rear panel and install the upgrade. Two separate drives mount on the computer -- one for the SSD and one for the hard disk. Use the SSD for bandwidth-intensive tasks, such as fast file transfers, audio mixing, video editing, or OS booting, and the hard disk for file archiving. No other solution offers this level of performance and capacity in such a compact footprint.
