LaCie SA Key Developments

LaCie Announces Latest Evolution of d2 Desktop Storage Line

LaCie announced the latest evolution of its d2 desktop storage line. Trusted by creative professionals for a decade, the latest LaCie(TM) d2 features a new all-aluminum unibody enclosure, dual Thunderbolt(TM) 2, and USB 3.0. Plus, as an industry first, LaCie designed the d2 Thunderbolt 2 to be upgradable to the fast SSD on the market, which boosts speeds up to 1,150 MB/s. Bringing together exceptional speeds and smart industrial design, the new LaCie d2 builds on its reputation for high performance and reliability. The new LaCie d2 combines the latest interfaces and a Seagate 6 TB 7200 RPM professional hard disk, resulting in speeds of up to 220 MB/s. This speed makes it possible to significantly reduce backup and transfer times as well as store and browse a massive RAW Adobe(R) Lightroom(R) library with zero lag. High performance plus industry-best capacity makes the LaCie d2 an ideal solution for storing large files and archiving projects. The dual Thunderbolt 2 ports let the user daisy chain up to six devices to a single Thunderbolt port on a computer. Plus, since Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 are backward compatible, the user always gets the best speeds that their computer allows. To multiply speeds by a factor of five, users can install the LaCie d2 SSD Upgrade (sold separately). The upgrade increases speeds up to 1,150 MB/s and adds 128 GB of PCIe SSD storage. This speed exceeds the performance of even the internal SSD on a late-model PC or Mac(R) computer. Simply remove the LaCie d2's rear panel and install the upgrade. Two separate drives mount on the computer -- one for the SSD and one for the hard disk. Use the SSD for bandwidth-intensive tasks, such as fast file transfers, audio mixing, video editing, or OS booting, and the hard disk for file archiving. No other solution offers this level of performance and capacity in such a compact footprint.

LaCie Upgrades Iconic Rugged Hard Drive

LaCie announced its latest Rugged hard drive that features faster speeds, a tougher design, and an integrated interface cable. Thunderbolt speeds of up to 387 MB/s make the new LaCie Rugged one of the fast bus-powered products on the market. It is tougher than ever before with improved shock, dust and water resistance. Plus, the integrated Thunderbolt cable stows neatly when not in use, to ensure that it will never get lost or left behind. The LaCie Rugged features lightening-fast transfer speeds due to the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces. With the SSD version, the LaCie Rugged delivers up to 387 MB/s. With these speeds, photographers, videographers and other power users can transfer 100GB in less than five minutes, and enjoy zero lag when accessing files, viewing photos or editing videos. The hard disk version performs at speeds of up to 122 MB/s, which is a 35% improvement over FireWire 800. With both Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces, the LaCie Rugged is an ideal match for Mac and PC users. Because USB 3.0 is backward compatible, users can connect it to any standard computer. The LaCie Rugged is also fully bus-powered through the USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cables. The new LaCie Rugged is tougher than ever. It is MIL-compliant, which means that data is protected even during accidental drops of up to 2 meters (6.6 feet). During transit, users can attach the removable cover to provide IP 54-level protection against dust and water. Whether the LaCie Rugged falls off a desk or accidentally gets caught in the rain, the user can stay confident that their data is still accessible. The SSD version goes a step further with resilience against vibration and shock. Both versions are tough enough to be shipped for reliable delivery to clients or partners. Included software even protects files from prying eyes with AES 256-bit encryption. The LaCie Rugged, design by Neil Poulton, will be broadly available mid-June through LaCie resellers in 1TB ($219.99) and 2TB ($299.99) capacities. The 250GB SSD ($299.99) and 500GB SSD ($499.99) capacities will be broadly available early-July. The LaCie Rugged is protected by a three-year limited warranty. The warranty includes comprehensive, complimentary web-based resources, expert in-house technical support, and worldwide repair and/or replacement coverage. Warranty extensions and Advance Care Option can also be purchased.

LaCie Announces Availability of New LaCie Little Big Disk, Featuring Thunderbolt 2

LaCie announced the availability of the fast portable storage solution ever - the new LaCie Little Big Disk, featuring Thunderbolt 2. It delivers speeds up to 1,375 MB/s and fits in a laptop bag. With these advances, professionals finally have a truly portable solution for editing 4K video in the field. To achieve the full potential of Thunderbolt 2 speeds, LaCie engineered the Little Big Disk(TM) with some of the best-performing solid state drives on the market - a pair of 500 GB PCIe Gen 2 SSDs. It's possible to push the boundaries of the technology even further by daisy chaining two Little Big Disks to achieve speeds faster than the maximum Thunderbolt 2 transfer rate. By connecting them in parallel to Apple's powerful new Mac Pro, they can deliver speeds up to 2,600 MB/s. In addition to its post-production benefits, the LaCie Little Big Disk can transfer dailies ten times faster than any mobile USB 3.0 hard drive. For example, it's possible to transfer 300 GB of 4K footage in less than three minutes, saving hours a day. Including high-performance SSDs and interface meant LaCie had to optimise the Little Big Disk's interior design to improve cooling efficiency, while simultaneously reducing noise. LaCie added two heat-dissipating aluminum plates in addition to a larger, thermoregulated fan. This means that the fan only turns on when necessary, and when it does, it produces nearly zero noise. As a result, the LaCie Little Big Disk delivers performance without disrupting the creative workflow. The new Little Big Disk, featuring Thunderbolt 2, is available in 1TB SSD capacity through LaCie Online Store and LaCie Resellers starting at £1,059.00 (MSRP). Thunderbolt 2 is compatible with the same cables and connectors as first-generation Thunderbolt.
