Shell Overseas Holdings To Sell Stake In Shell Refining Co To Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical

Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Berhad (KLSE:SHELL); said its major shareholder, Shell Overseas Holdings Ltd, is in discussions with Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical Company Limited. In a statement today, SRC said, while SOHL was considering a sale of its shares in the company, no agreement for the sale has been reached with SHP or any other party.

Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical Is Reported To Acquire Shell Refining

On January 19, 2016, Sin Chew Daily, quoting a Chinese media report, said that Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. will invest $130 million to acquire Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Berhad. When asked on the matter, Shell Refining said the group has nothing to announce at this point of time, reported The Edge Markets. “The board continues to proactively investigate long-term options in the best interest of the company,” Shell Refining's spokesman said, adding the group will update its shareholders on the progress. The Chinese report quoting a Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical official who declined to be named, said that China’s central planning agency the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has approved the acquisition, but has yet to sign the agreement with Shell Refining.

Shell Refining Company Federation of Malaya Berhad announced earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company’s loss was MYR 151.13 million, or a loss of 50.38 sen per basic share, compared to a loss of MYR 199.76 million, or a loss of 66.59 sen per basic share, for the same quarter ended September 30, 2014. Revenue was MYR 1.27 billion, compared to MYR 3.44 billion for the same quarter ended September 30, 2014. For the nine months, the company’s profit was MYR 255.29 million, or 85.10 sen per basic share, compared to a loss of MYR 271.86 million, or a loss of 90.62 sen per basic share, for the same period ended September 30, 2014. Revenue was MYR 6.72 billion, compared to MYR 11.33 billion for the same period ended September 30, 2014.
