Canal Plus Channels Unveil New Branding, Programming

Canal Plus has confirmed plans to reduce the amount of free-to-air programming it shows and strengthen its offering of sports and films in order to attract more subscribers. From September, its main pay channel will drop from around five hours of unencrypted programming each day to two hours. The company promises another 150 hours per month of encrypted programmes, focusing on top content. The free-to-air channel D8, which will be rebranded C8 to align better with Canal Plus branding, will also get new content, and the new channel iTele will be rebranded CNews.

Canal Plus Names Franck Appietto as Head of its Channel D8

Canal Plus announced the appointment of Franck Appietto as head of its channel D8. He replaces Xavier Gandon, who is leaving the company for another job. Appietto will report to CEO Maxime Saada and will also keep his job as director of events programming at the group Canal Plus. Appietto has worked at Canal Plus since 1999, in a range of production and programming roles at pay-TV and free-to-air channels.

Canal Plus Appoints Gerald-Brice Vivet as Director

Canal Plus has appointed Gerald-Brice Vivet as Canal Plus director. Viret keeps his current programming responsibilities for the group. In his new role he reports to Canal Plus CEO Maxime Saada.
