Bank for International Settlements Announces Executive Changes

The Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) announced the appointment of Monica Ellis as Secretary General. Her appointment takes effect on 1 January 2017 and is for a five-year term. Mrs. Ellis' appointment fills the vacancy being created by the retirement in December 2016 of Peter Dittus, who has been Secretary General since 2005. In her new role, Mrs. Ellis will head the General Secretariat, one of the Bank's three main departments. As a key member of the Bank's Executive Committee, thus contributing to the general management of the BIS, she will have overall responsibility for the provision of corporate services within the BIS. Mrs. Ellis has 20 years of service at the BIS and was appointed as Deputy Secretary General and Head of Communications in January 2014. Prior to that, she was Deputy Head of Risk Control and Head of Credit Analysis. BIS General Manager Jaime Caruana warmly thanked Mr. Dittus for his outstanding service to the Bank over many years and wished him well for the future.
Bank for International Settlements Appoints Graeme Wheeler as Chair of the BIS Asian Consultative Council

The Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements has appointed Graeme Wheeler as Chair of the BIS Asian Consultative Council from 1 April 2016. Mr. Wheeler is Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. The term of appointment for the ACC Chairman is two years. The ACC is a vehicle for communication between shareholding central banks in the Asia-Pacific region1 and the BIS on matters of interest and concern to regional central banks. It also provides guidance for the research and banking activities of the BIS's Asian Office, which serves as the secretariat for the ACC. Mr. Wheeler succeeds Amando Tetangco Jr, Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the central bank of the Philippines, who chaired the Council from April 2014.
