Shell Canada Withdraws Regulatory Application for Pierre River Mine

Shell announced it is withdrawing its regulatory application for the proposed Pierre River Mine north of Fort McMurray, Alberta to focus attention on its existing oil sands operations. Shell has existing regulatory approval and scope to potentially more than double its oil sands production from its current level of 255,000 bpd.

Shell Canada to Cut Up to 300 Jobs at the Athabasca Oil Sands Project

Shell Canada told employees this week it will cut up to 10% of 3,000 jobs at the Athabasca Oil Sands Project mining operations it manages north of Fort Mc-Murray in an effort to improve efficiency. Employees displaced by the moves to be rolled out gradually over an undetermined time period will be able to reapply for positions elsewhere with Shell. The actual number of layoffs will be 'well below' 300 as cuts affect between 5% and 10% of jobs.

Genalta Power Enters Agreement with Shell Canada to Generate an Additional 5MW from Peace River Solution Gas

Genalta Power announced that it will be increasing the capacity of its Peace River Generation Facilities after entering into an agreement with Shell Canada. The additional capacity will be utilizing produced gas that is associated with Shell's Peace River bitumen (Cliffdale) cold production as source fuel to generate approximately 5MW of electricity. This is Genalta Power's second produced gas to power arrangement with Shell. The first, signed in 2012, allows Genalta Power to generate 4MW of electricity from Shell's produced gas.
