Government Studies BSNL And MTNL Merger

The government is taking into consideration merger between Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (BSE:500108) (MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL). Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Communications and IT, said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, "The long term measures, including merger of BSNL and MTNL, would attempt to position these PSUs to emerge as market leaders in the converged telecommunication market."
