SolarWinds Announces Updates to SolarWinds® Server & Application Monitor
Oct 4 16
SolarWinds announced updates to its SolarWinds® Server & Application Monitor (SAM) that vastly improve IT professionals' monitoring, alerting and reporting capabilities for Linux® environments. Now with both agentless and agent-based monitoring capabilities for Linux systems, SolarWinds SAM is ideally suited to help improve the performance and uptime of both Windows®- and Linux-based applications within a single console wherever they are deployed -- on-premises, whether physical or virtual, or in the cloud. Additional new capabilities include: Next generation high availability to simplify deploying SolarWinds SAM and other SolarWinds Orion platform-based products in a redundant configuration for critical workloads; Faster discovery of servers and applications through directory services; Monitoring of Linux processes in real time and the ability to identify which are consuming the most CPU/memory and start/stop processes remotely; Additional visibility into network interface metrics, such as bandwidth throughput, packet and error counts; Web-based SSH® client for remote console management of Linux servers directly from the SolarWinds Orion platform interface; Automatic identification of Linux distributions, simplifying the configuration of distribution-specific monitoring templates. SolarWinds SAM pricing starts at USD 2,995, including the first year of maintenance.
SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC Announces Enhancements to Database Performance Analyzer
Aug 9 16
SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC announced new enhancements to its SolarWinds database performance analyzer, or DPA. With the enhancements, SolarWinds DPA is the only tool available on the market capable of providing Multi-Dimensional Performance Analysis to improve Software as a Service (SaaS) application performance for MySQL- and Linux-only IT organizations, helping them reduce costs and improve overall organizational effectiveness. Specifically, SolarWinds DPA now supports MySQL database repositories, enabling SaaS companies running MySQL- and Linux-only infrastructure whether on-premises or in the cloud to fully leverage the tool, whereas a Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle repository were required previously. Additional significant new features in the latest release of SolarWinds DPA include visualization and analysis to help DBAs optimize for and resolve blocking, locking and deadlock issues, and support for Microsoft SQL Server 2016. Conventional MySQL monitoring tools offer SaaS companies and other predominantly MySQL IT organizations only a simplistic set of database health metrics that are often inadequate in identifying and resolving database bottlenecks impacting application performance. SolarWinds DPA can help database administrators (DBAs), application developers and operations teams quickly reveal the root cause of performance problems with a unique response-time analysis approach that helps application teams by correlating SQL operations, wait events and server and virtualization resources to pinpoint MySQL database bottlenecks impacting application performance. With the latest release, IT professionals working in MySQL- and Linux-only environments are now able to fully leverage the power of SolarWinds DPA. Support for MySQL repositories also enables IT professionals with SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Azure or Amazon RDS environments to reduce licensing fee costs by leveraging a lower-cost MySQL repository. Deadlocks are an extreme blocking scenario that occurs when two or more blocking sessions are waiting for the other to release a lock on a table or other resource, but neither can release the lock. Databases resolve these contentions by selecting a victim and survivor. SolarWinds DPA now not only alerts when SQL Server deadlocks occur, but also identifies victims and the overall victim impact-the information necessary to help DBAs determine why a deadlock occurred and how to resolve deadlocking issues. With the newly added support for SQL Server 2016, SolarWinds DPA now supports the very latest versions of the top three major relational database platforms-MySQL 5.7, Oracle 12c and SQL Server 2016. SolarWinds DPA pricing starts at $1,995 for MySQL, SQL Server and Oracle Standard Edition, and $3,495 for Oracle Enterprise Edition, DB2 and SAP ASE. SolarWinds offers fully functional two-week trials on the Amazon AWS Marketplace as an AMI, on the Azure Marketplace and as a downloadable version on the SolarWinds website that generally takes minutes to install. Customers will not incur SolarWinds software charges during free two-week cloud trials, however infrastructure charges may still apply. All database platforms are licensed by the instance, and pricing includes the first year of maintenance.
SolarWinds Worldwide Releases New Network Performance Monitor Tool
Jun 17 16
SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC announced the release of the network administrator's trusted tool, SolarWinds network performance monitor, or NPM. With the release of SolarWinds NPM 12, the company's product and tool relied on by tens of thousands of IT departments now features NetPath and Network Insight. For the first time, these two new capabilities give network administrators the hybrid IT visual insights and analysis needed for visibility into the performance of services across not only the networks they own-but those of their service providers and cloud vendors as well. These innovations empower IT professionals to provide the application performance end users expect and businesses need in today's on-demand environments. The addition of NetPath makes SolarWinds NPM 12 the only network monitoring software that visually maps hybrid network paths alongside on-premises data. For example, NetPath gives IT professionals whose organizations use cloud-based applications such as Salesforce the ability to identify the exact location of a performance issue-whether on the internal LAN, with a WAN provider or on the cloud application vendor's own network-and provides actionable insights for resolution. Specific NetPath features include: Dynamic and visual hop-by-hop analysis of critical paths and devices along the entire network delivery path-on-premises, in the cloud or across hybrid IT environments; Specific, actionable information to resolve network issues regardless of network ownership; Automatic and dynamic thresholds to identify unhealthy critical paths and network nodes, providing an estimated 50% faster time to resolution; Visualized critical path performance over time for historical views of network latency; Identification of device configuration changes along critical paths when integrated with SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager; and Immediate insight into the traffic travelling across flow-enabled devices impacting network performance when integrated with SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer. While NetPath provides breadth of visibility, Network Insight provides depth by enabling comprehensive monitoring of load balancing environments that empowers IT professionals with deeper network intelligence, including dynamic and visual insight into the performance of applications and service delivery. Specific Network Insight features include: Visualization of entire load balancing environments; Graphical display of relationships and component status; and Visualization of component details in a single console. Network Insight is currently available for F5 BIG-IP environments, with support for additional appliances expected in future releases.
