Smartfren Telecom Expands its LTE Services to 85 Cities

Smartfren Telecom expanded its LTE services to 85 cities. Smartfren has selected Nokia to develop its base transceiver stations in Greater Jakarta, West Java and Sumatra. ZTE is in charge of Smartfren's infrastructure in Central Java, East Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan and Sulawesi. Smartfren currently offers 4G-enabled handsets from Samsung, Lenovo and Hisense. Smartfren says that of its total base of 13 million customers, around 1 million are 4G users.
Cascade Gold Awards Loan Deal, Worth $100 Million to Smartfren Telecom

Smartfren Telecom announced that $100 million loan agreement has been bagged by the company from Cascade Gold. The loan matures three years, following the company began to make withdrawals. The loan will be used to repay the company’s debts, as well as those of the company subsidiaries, and to help fund working capital.
Smartfren Launches Lte-Advanced Services

Smartfren Telecom has launched 4G services, using a combination of FDD and TDD LTE-Advanced. The 4G service uses carrier aggregation in the 850MHz and 2,300MHz frequency bands, compared to the 900 MHz band used by the other major operators in Indonesia. Smartfren, which is the sole CDMA operator in the country, claims it offers wider 4G coverage at launch, spanning from Aceh to Kalimantan. Its network was deployed by ZTE and Nokia, in respectively the east and west of the country. The number of 4G base stations for the eastern region stands at 3,500 and in the western region will be around 4,500, according to the company. Smartfren said that to attract more subscribers, the company would make its 4G services available not just for its brand Smartfren Andromax customers, but also its other mainstream brands, through a bundling package. It aims to migrate around 30% of customers to 4G in 2015 already, shifting around 1 million of its Andromax 4G devices.
