Tigerair Reports Traffic Results for the Month and Twelve Months to January 2015

Tigerair reported traffic results for the month and twelve months to January 2015. For the month of January 2015, the airline operations in Singapore recorded a 2.4% year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in traffic to 787 million revenue passenger-kilometres (RPK), while capacity decreased by 11.1% to 1,001 million available seat-kilometres (ASK). Consequently, year-on-year passenger load factor increased by 7.0 percentage points to 78.6%. The number of passengers carried fell by 5.5% year-on-year to about 410,000. For the 12 months to January 2015, traffic increased by 7.7% year-on-year to 9.8 billion RPK, while capacity increased by 4.5% to 12.0 billion ASK. Consequently, passenger load factor was 2.5 percentage points higher at 81.7%. The number of passengers carried grew by 5.8% to 5.2 million, compared to 5.0 million in the previous corresponding period.

Tiger Airways Holdings Limited reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of SGD 182,263,000 compared to revenue of SGD 172,126,000 for the same period a year ago. Operating profit was SGD 4,095,000 compared to operating loss of SGD 8,792,000 last year. Net profit for the period was SGD 2,193,000 or 0.17 cents per diluted share compared to loss of SGD 120,829,000 or 12.02 cents per diluted share last year. Profit before taxation was SGD 2,628,000 against loss before taxation of SGD 120,829,000 a year ago. Net cash flows from operating activities were SGD 3,795,000 against SGD 6,237,000 a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was SGD 58,000 against SGD 134,203,000 a year ago. Additions to intangible assets were SGD 48,000. For the nine months, the company reported revenue of SGD 498,008,000 compared to revenue of SGD 572,143,000 for the same period a year ago. Operating loss was SGD 37,601,000 compared to SGD 27,806,000 last year. Loss for the period was SGD 245,411,000 or 23.89 cents per basic and diluted share compared to SGD 127,484,000 or 12.93 cents per basic and diluted share last year. Loss before taxation was SGD 251,527,000 against SGD 131,283,000 a year ago. Net cash flows from operating activities were SGD 22,683,000 against SGD 6,342,000 a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was SGD 33,858,000 against SGD 328,823,000 a year ago. Additions to intangible assets were SGD 169,000. The net loss for the nine months had exacerbated, largely due to the provision for onerous aircraft leases of SGD 99.3 million, higher loss on the planned disposal of a joint venture of SGD 29.4 million and absence of SGD 106.1 million gain on loss of control of Tigerair Australia which took place in July 2013, partially offset by absence of SGD 106.3 million impairment loss relating to associates.

For the month, Tigerair Singapore recorded a 1.8% year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in traffic to 889 million revenue passenger-kilometres (RPK), while capacity decreased by 10.6% to 1,033 million available seat-kilometres (ASK). Consequently, year on year o-y passenger load factor increased by 7.8% points to 86.1%. The number of passengers carried fell by 5.3% y-o-y to about 468,000. For the twelve months to December 2014, Tigerair Singapore's traffic increased by 8.9% year on year to 9.8 billion RPK, while capacity increased by 8.0% to 12.2 billion ASK. Consequently, passenger load factor was 0.7% point higher at 81.0%. The number of passengers carried grew by 7.4% to 5.3 million, compared to 4.9 million in the previous corresponding period.
