The two bidders gained an edge because both have technical expertise in air-bag systems and safety equipment and because carmakers view them as able to lower costs and improve quality of Takata Corporation parts, two sources reportedly told Bloomberg. Takata has said it plans to find a buyer and finalize its restructuring plan by 2016. Three other bidders also made it to the most recent round: KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE:KKR); Bain & Company, Inc. and Daicel Corporation (TSE:4202) in a joint pitch; and Flex-N-Gate Corporation, Bloomberg said. Any of the three could come back if the two finalists do not agree to terms with Takata, the story said.
