As part of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment's (UPHE) recent move to globalize its operations, it was announced that Jeff Fleeher has been appointed to the newly created position of Worldwide Chief Financial Officer (CFO). In his new role, Fleeher will develop a financial and operational strategy to support UPHE's 11 operating companies around the world. Additionally, he will drive business operating mechanisms to monitor and further develop the group's key financial metrics, ensure rigorous controllership across the business and directly support all commercial growth opportunities. Fleeher will begin his new role with the company in January, reporting directly to Eddie Cunningham, President, UPHE.

Universal Pictures appointed Michael Wise senior vice president and chief technology officer of the company. In this role, Wise will be responsible for the development and execution of a technology strategy for Universal Pictures and will be overseeing the delivery of all technology initiatives and operations in support of the studio. Wise, who will assume his duties during the week of Dec. 1, recently served as vice president of multiplatform distribution technologies for Time Warner Inc.'s Turner Broadcasting System.
Universal Studios to Open $3.3 Billion Theme Park in China

Universal Studios announced that it will open a $3.3 billion theme park in the rapidly growing market. Expected to open in 2019, the new park will compete with DreamWorks Animation's $3.1 billion theme park, and the $4.4 billion complex Disney is opening. Both those facilities will open to the public in 2016. Universal spent 13 years trying to bring a theme park on the planet, a struggle the company says has left it with a great appreciation for the culture and wants of the Beijing. The theme park will be partially designed by renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
