US Signal Introduces New Enhanced Data Protection Services
Sep 10 14
US Signal introduced a new complete suite of backup and recovery services giving data-intensive businesses the ability to meet or exceed their established disaster recovery plan objectives. The company's Backup-as-a-Service allows the customer to back up files or full physical or virtual machine disk images to US Signal owned and operated storage architecture. Data is automatically compressed between 50% to 70% on average, reducing the time and space needed to complete backups. US Signal customers have the ability to set 1-30 days or indefinite retention schedules with Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) as low as one minute. For those who use the backup service, US Signal also offers Recovery-as-a-Service, which allows customers to recover their backups to a US Signal Resource Pool or Hosted Private Cloud (HPC) environment. Customers have the option to choose from a reserved or on-demand recovery service. Reserved customers elect to have a Resource Pool or HPC environment on standby, which decreases their Recovery Time Objective (RTO) by having pre-built compute environments ready for a customer declared recovery event. With the purchase of backup and recovery services, US Signal provides a complete playbook detailing disaster recovery plans and processes. These plans are developed and maintained by US Signal and reviewed with the customer regularly, so that the US Signal professional services team is ready to recover and restore customer environments in the event of a disaster.
US Signal Announces Installation of Two Cisco ASR9000 Core Routers in its Madison, Wis. Data Center
Dec 10 13
US Signal announced the installation of two Cisco ASR9000 core routers in its Madison, Wis. data center. The upgrade, slated to be completed by January 2014, will create a dynamic network hub in Madison that will greatly improve overall efficiency of regional data traffic over the US Signal network. The upgrade will reduce the round trip latency -- or "lag time" -- of data transmissions down to just 4 to 5 milliseconds, compared to typical regional rates of 10 to 15 milliseconds. Data traffic from Madison to other hubs on the US Signal network will also be carried across a new 10-gigabit connection, expanded from a 1-gigabit line. The new core routers will be directly connected to the US Signal private fiber-optic backbone. And as a true layer 3 extension of the network, the upgrade will significantly enhance the routing of both US Signal Cloud Hosting and Network Services. As a result, all of Madison business's important applications, storage and virtual resources can be hosted locally and backed up in geographically diverse locations in Illinois and Michigan. Because data traffic between US Signal hubs is unmetered, customers are not charged for transmission across these locations, regardless of frequency or size leading to significant cost savings for data redundancy.
US Signal Company, LLC Announces New 20,000-Square-Foot Data Center in Grand Rapids
Oct 15 13
US Signal announced that it has broken ground for a new 20,000-square-foot, data center in its hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich. The new facility, expected to open in July 2014, will be the first purpose-built data center in the West Michigan area with expansion capabilities for up to 40,000 square feet. The new data center will add a new network hub to the existing seven US Signal Midwest-based data centers and increase access points for its Cloud Hosting product suite. Over the past ten years, the company has invested substantial capital to build its 14,000-mile Midwest fiber optic footprint within its 10-state region which currently connects seven of its own data centers, providing end-to-end solutions for both network and cloud customers. In addition to enhanced product offerings, the facility will provide customers access to more than 600 POP sites and multiple carriers, as well as multiple physically diverse and protected fiber routes. Customers will experience technologies and the capability to deliver up to 100G services, over redundant DWDM, SONET, Ethernet, and MPLS architectures. Because the facility is being built from the ground up specifically for complex and secure data center operations, US Signal will benchmark to Tier 3 standards, while also incorporating certain Tier 4 standards: Tier 3 and 4 Standards: Minimum of N+1 resilience on HVAC system; Tier 3 guard station for additional security; CCTVE surveillance system for interior and exterior activity monitoring; Building controls monitored by the Network Operations Center, 24/7/365, including: Temperature and humidity; Key electrical and mechanical systems; Power usage; Raised flooring (24") with antistatic tile; Biometric access control via iris scanner.
