Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. Key Developments

Thomas & Solomon Files Class Action Lawsuit on Wegmans Food Markets

Wegmans Food Markets announced that it has been accused of violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act in a lawsuit alleging the company failed to give proper notification to job applicants and employees who became the subjects of consumer background reports. The civil lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, was brought by Ashleigh Wheeler of Rochester, who was hired in 2013 by Wegmans as a cashier, and Jerah Brewster of Ithaca, who was hired in 2015 by Wegmans as a pharmacy technician and later worked as a coffee shop attendant. The local law firm Thomas & Solomon is representing Wheeler and Brewster and filed the lawsuit as a class action complaint on behalf of all employees and job applicants in the United States who were the subjects of consumer reports obtained by Wegmans over the past five years. The lawsuit seeks not less than $100 and not more than $1,000 for each violation as well as punitive damages in the amounts.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. Plans to Build New Store in Westchester Country

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. signed a purchase agreement with Normandy Real Estate Partners for a 20-acre parcel of land, located at 106-110 Corporate Park Drive in Harrison, NY (Westchester County), to build a new store. The 100-year-old company plans to build a standalone 125,000 sq. ft. store and 8,000 sq. ft. complementary retail outparcel. The site is currently a vacant office complex that will be demolished before construction begins. Wegmans and Normandy Real Estate Partners are jointly seeking municipal approvals for the project. Design plans are not finalized and a construction timeline and projected opening date for the store won't be determined until all necessary approvals are in place. The Harrison site is 2.5 miles west of the Connecticut state border and 45 miles northeast of Wegmans' Woodbridge, NJ store. In New York State alone, Wegmans operates 46 stores in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, the Finger Lakes, and the Southern Tier region, and has also announced plans for a store in Brooklyn. The remaining of Wegmans' 92 stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

Wegmans Food Markets Confirms Plans for its Fourth Store in the Triangle

Wegmans Food Markets has confirmed plans for its fourth store in the Triangle as the New York-based grocery chain prepares for an all-out march into North Carolina for the first time. A new plan recently filed in the town of Cary shows that Wegmans will anchor a new retail development project called Twin Lakes Center. The property is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Davis Drive and Airport Boulevard in Cary, about a mile south of the border with Research Triangle Park. The store in Twin Lakes Center is in addition to three other planned Wegmans-anchored retail centers announced earlier 2016 in Raleigh, Chapel Hill and at Cary Towne Boulevard in Cary.
