Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems announced unaudited earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported sales of $2,431 million against $2,532 million a year ago. Operating income was $280 million against $299 million a year ago. Sales decreased 4% due to lower volume for space and restricted programs, partially offset by higher volume for unmanned programs. Operating income decreased 6%, reflecting lower sales and less favorable performance for unmanned programs, partially offset by improved performance for military aircraft programs.
For the year, the company reported sales of $10,004 million against $9,997 million a year ago. Operating income was $1,220 million against $1,315 million a year ago. For 2015, operating income declined 7% due to $75 million realized in 2014 for settlements of certain legal claims.
Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Wins Contract for Develop and Test Prototype Demonstration System for the Tactically Exploited Reconnaissance Node (TERN) Phase III Program

Aerospace Systems awarded contract for develop and test a prototype demonstration system for the Tactically Exploited Reconnaissance Node (TERN) phase III program. United States Department of Defense (DoD), announced the contract in its digest of labor deals, the Tern program will design and manufacture technologies for a medium-altitude long-endurance UAV and shipboard-capable launch and recovery system. Both the system and the UAV will benefit what the DoD classified as smaller ships. The total value of the agreement is $132.4 million, meaning that Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems will cover the $39.3 in remaining costs not funded by the government. Nearly $30 million in fiscal 2015 and 2016 research and development funds are being assigned with the award.
