GSMA Launches IoT Big Data Directory to Support Growth of Innovative New IoT Solutions

The GSMA announced the launch of the ‘IoT Big Data API Directory’ that will make harmonised data sets from multiple sources worldwide available to developers and third parties, enabling them to create innovative new Internet of Things (IoT) services. The directory, which is the first of its kind, is designed to encourage a common approach to data sharing that will help the IoT to realise its full potential and encourage the development of new projects across transport, the environment and smart cities. Global mobile operators China Mobile, China Unicom, KT Corporation, Orange and Telefónica have already implemented solutions enabling them to share harmonised IoT data.

GSMA Appoints Takashi Tanaka to the Board

The GSMA announced that Takashi Tanaka, president of Japanese operator KDDI, has been appointed to the GSMA's board. The GSMA board currently has 26 members, including Mats Granryd, director general of GSMA, and 25 operator representatives from around the world. The recently-elected board of the GSMA starts its term on 1 January 2017.
