Southern Company Services announced that Tami M. Barron has been elected president and CEO of SouthernLINC Wireless, effective February 1, 2015. She most recently served as vice president of Southern Company's supply chain management organization. In her new role, Barron will be responsible for providing reliable wireless communications service, including mobile phones, to a wide range of businesses and consumers within a 127,000-square-mile coverage area that includes Alabama, Georgia, southeastern Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle. Barron replaces Don Horsley, who will serve as chairman of the board of SouthernLINC Wireless until his retirement later this spring. Barron joined Southern Company in 1984 and held a number of positions at subsidiary Georgia Power in the areas of marketing, area management and distribution operations before serving as general manager for distribution engineering, construction and maintenance.

SouthernLINC Wireless Announces the Availability of MOTOTALKT, a New Push-To-Talk Application

SouthernLINC Wireless announced the availability of MOTOTALK(TM), a new Push-To-Talk application that connects any domestic wireless carrier's smartphone to the SouthernLINC Wireless network. MOTOTALK enables users to send and receive Push-To-Talk (PTT) calls from SouthernLINC Wireless phones wherever a 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi data network is available. Now, people using an iPhone or Android smartphone from another U.S. carrier can download and use MOTOTALK to communicate via PTT with a SouthernLINC Wireless phone. The MOTOTALK app from SouthernLINC Wireless offers users unlimited PTT calling not just to individuals, but to groups as well. Whether trying to communicate with a friend, family member, co-worker or a fleet of workers, MOTOTALK gives to user instant communication at the push of a button using a smartphone's high- speed data service. Other features include a PTT call alert tone, cross-fleet calling functionality, and the ability to import PTT contacts from a phone's directory. The app provides PTT functionality wherever a 3G, 4G or Wi-Fi data network is available across the U.S. MOTOTALK can be used with any iPhone or iPad with an iOS 7 or later operating system and with any Android operating system device with version 2.3 or later. The device must have at least 8 MB of available storage. The MOTOTALK app requires 3G/4G or high-speed Wi-Fi network access to work properly.
