Freeport Selects Honeywell Process Solutions's Automation Systems to Expand LNG Terminal in Texas

Honeywell Process Solutions has announced that its automation and security systems will help Freeport LNG Development, L.P. to expand its southeast Texas liquefied natural gas, or LNG, terminal into a liquefaction and export operation. This expansion will give Freeport LNG 13.9 million tons a year of export capacity. Startup is expected in 2018. Freeport LNG's is one of 10 new or expanded import or export LNG terminals that have been approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. HPS will be the integrated main automation contractor for the expansion project. In this role, HPS will be responsible for designing, delivering and installing the automation, instrumentation, controls, and safety and security systems. The unified approach will be critical in helping the project meet operational and business readiness goals on day-one of startup. The terminal, located on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas, will build three new processing units, or trains, as part of a more than $13 billion expansion, adding gas pretreatment and liquefaction capabilities. Honeywell will supply its automation and control expertise and a unique approach to project consulting and execution to support Freeport LNG's move to exporting LNG in the wake of newly-exploited domestic natural gas resources. Honeywell will go beyond the traditional main automation contractor role to include a broader scope of products, services, and consulting capabilities that add value over the entire project and operating lifecycle of the venture. Specific key deliverables include a number of Honeywell's innovative and patented technologies including LEAP, Honeywell's lean project execution services, Experion PKS Orion with Distributed Systems Architecture, Experion Security Integrator, Fault Tolerant Ethernet, Universal process and safety I/O, virtualization, advanced control, Safety Manager, Fire and gas systems, OneWireless Network, Digital Video Manager, UniSim operator training simulator, advanced alarm management software, and PHD data historian. By leveraging these integrated solutions, Honeywell will reduce risks and minimize potential schedule delays for both Freeport LNG and its engineering, procurement and construction contractor during the facility expansion's startup. Honeywell has partnered with principals at Freeport LNG for almost a decade to drive supply chain optimization aimed at achieving production and cargo deliveries that meet or exceed Freeport LNG's Annual Delivery Plan.

Honeywell Process Solutions launched the first digital dashboard designed to proactively monitor, measure and manage cyber security risk for control systems for refineries, power plants and other automated production sites throughout the world that are at increasing risk of cyber attacks. The Honeywell Industrial Cyber Security Risk Manager, is designed to simplify the task of identifying areas of cyber security risk, providing real-time visibility, understanding and decision support required for action. It monitors and measures cyber security risk in multi-vendor industrial environments. The threat of cyber attacks on industrial targets is a major concern according to a global survey on cyber
security  conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs in September 2014 on behalf of Honeywell. More than 5,000 adults in 10 countries were surveyed about the threat of cyber attacks on critical industries in their countries.
Honeywell Process Solutions Introduces Next-Generation, Flat-Sheet Profile Measurement for Continuous Web Solution Applications

Honeywell Process Solutions launched its next-generation scanning measurement technology designed to provide faster, lower cost measurement for continuous web solution (CWS) applications such as plastics, films, non-wovens and other flat-sheet applications. Honeywell's ZipLine Scanning Measurement Device is a self-contained scanning measurement device that provides high-speed measurement of flat sheets without the cost, size, and complexity of traditional scanners. ZipLine combines Honeywell's proven sensor designs with a new, patented, flat sheet scanning system that is easier to install, and has a lower total cost of ownership than traditional scanner designs. Honeywell leveraged decades of leading process and technology expertise to develop ZipLine. The new scanner is much smaller with flexible mounting options, but uses the same high-performance sensors as Honeywell's traditional flat sheet scanners. ZipLine replaces the rigid O-frame structure of traditional scanners with tensioned stainless steel cables that support intelligent, self-driven measurement modules. Tensioned cables are also used to supply power and secondary support to the measurement modules. A secure Wi-Fi network provides communication between the modules and the support system, and an onboard compressor provides air to the sensor. These features eliminate the need for a moving power track to manage cables and hoses. ZipLine measurement modules are capable of scanning at high speeds - up to 400 millimeters per second - and deliver high-resolution basis weight profiles. Flexible measurement modules can be removed for periodic repairs along with easy accessibility to the ZipLine's measurement support processor to allow simplified maintenance.
