Practice Fusion Adds Medi-Span Drug Database to EHR Platform Impacting 4 Million e-Prescriptions a Month
Mar 25 15
Practice Fusion announced that it is partnering with Wolters Kluwer Health to integrate the Medi-Span® core drug database, resource for prescription and over-the-counter drug information and drug interactions, into the Practice Fusion EHR platform. The medical professionals that use the Practice Fusion EHR will have access to the latest medication information and recommended dosages when they e-prescribe medications to patients. Key Points about the Practice Fusion- Medi-Span Integration: the integration helps provide physicians with up-to-date medication information and dosages when e-prescribing through the Practice Fusion platform; providers are alerted about their patients' potential drug-drug or drug-allergy interactions. These drug-drug or-drug allergy interactions adversely affect over 2 million Americans per year; impacting more than 4 million e-prescriptions per month sent by Practice Fusion's 112,000 active medical professionals; over 5,000 prescription medication orders can be pre-configured through the Practice Fusion EHR to save providers time and reduce prescription errors. The integration of the Medi-Span database into the Practice Fusion EHR will help ensure that providers using the Practice Fusion EHR have the latest information on therapeutics, including newly approved medications. Medi-Span content also provides pre-configured prescription medication orders for more than 5,000 of the most common prescriptions, enabling e-prescribing providers to more easily enter prescriptions, while helping to reduce medication prescription errors. Providers save time by getting relevant and up-to-date prescription medication information directly through the Practice Fusion EHR, and patients can get the right medication they need. Clinical decision support interventions through Medi-Span drug-drug and drug-allergy checks offer real-time alerts to providers about possible drug interactions that could otherwise affect their patients' health.
