Newspaper Association of America Appoints Michael Maloon as Vice President of Innovation

Newspaper Association of America (NAA) has announced the hire of Michael MaLoon as Vice President of Innovation, a new position created to further the collaboration, advocacy and advancement of the newspaper industry. In this role, MaLoon will work closely with the NAA leadership team to ensure that the organization is helping its member companies innovate and succeed. MaLoon will focus on creating new strategic initiatives and designing unique partnerships that will propel innovation in the industry, working collaboratively with NAA staff to execute strategic research and communications programs. MaLoon has built an extensive executive career in media, publishing and marketing, focused on research-driven product development to create growth. He most recently served as the director of sales and operations at The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy, where he led the launch of a new Chronicle Unlimited program that generated important incremental revenue. MaLoon's previous positions include consulting for NextGen Marketing Group, digital director of The Buffalo News, director of recruitment advertising for Newsday Media Group, president of CyberInk, a Times Publishing Co. subsidiary, and online director of The Observer-Dispatch.

Newspaper Association of America (NAA) announced that its board of directors has selected David Chavern as its new president and CEO, effective October 14, 2015. Chavern succeeds Caroline H. Little, who led the association for four years and announced her retirement earlier in 2015. In his new role at NAA, Chavern will work closely with board members and staff to navigate the organization through a continued period of significant opportunity for newspaper media. Chavern has built a career spanning 30 years in executive strategic and operational roles, and most recently completed a decade-long tenure at the United States Chamber of Commerce. From 2014 to 2015, he served as the President of the Center for Advanced Technology & Innovation at the Chamber.

The Newspaper Association of America announced the appointment of Danielle Coffey as the organization's vice president of public policy effective April 2, 2015. Ms. Coffey will advocate on behalf of the industry on a wide range of issues, such as the need for strong copyright protection of original news media content and revisions to outdated regulations that have hindered investments in local journalism. Danielle Coffey comes to NAA from the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), where she led advocacy efforts for member companies on issues that affected the Internet ecosystem, content regulation and international trade.
