National Foundation for Infectious Diseases Announces Changes to its Board of Directors

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases announced the election results for the 2017-2018 NFID Board of Directors and updated slate of officers. The new Directors joined the NFID Board for three year terms effective on July 1, 2017 are: Beth P. Bell, Cristina Cassetti, Jeffrey A. Goad and Kathleen M. Neuzil. Beth P. Bell is past director of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she provided leadership for the prevention and control of a broad spectrum of infectious diseases, including rare but deadly diseases such as Ebola and anthrax. Cristina Cassetti is responsible for leadership, execution, and oversight of NIH extramural research programs on several infectious diseases and the scientific direction, administration, and management of the virology branch in the division of microbiology and infectious diseases at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Jeffrey A. Goad is the immediate past-president of the California Immunization Coalition. He is also immediate past-chair and founding member of the Pharmacists Professional Group Section of the International Society of Travel Medicine. Kathleen M. Neuzil is deputy director of the University of Maryland School of Medicine Institute for Global Health and director of the Center for Vaccine Development. Throughout her career, she has conducted clinical and epidemiologic studies on numerous vaccine-preventable diseases, including work on influenza and rotavirus, that have informed domestic and international vaccine policy. The NFID Board of Directors also expresses their appreciation to outgoing Director George M. Eliopoulos, MD, professor of medicine, Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, for his service to NFID.
