Imagine Communications Corp. announced the availability of Versio™ 3.0, innovative release of the company’s market-proven, cloud-capable integrated channel playout solution. Providing all playout functions and features entirely in software, Versio 3.0 will be demonstrated at the IBC2015 exhibition and conference in Amsterdam. Versio gives media and entertainment companies the ability to accelerate the launch of new services, such as specialty and popup channels, ensure business continuity, reduce infrastructure costs and virtualize master control. It is highly adaptable to a wide variety of deployment models, enabling consistent operation across baseband, hybrid IP, and virtualized, cloud-based networks. The latest release of Versio supports multiple industry breakthroughs: 100% software-based; Widest range of operating options, from premises-based COTS servers to cloud-based virtual machines, including a traditional integrated playout appliance model; Baseband, IP-only, baseband and IP, and cloud (VersioCloud™) deployment models; Software-only graphics with 2x2D DVE; Support for both internal and external automation; Integration with Imagine Communications’ Nexio® Farad™ SAN solution, as well as third-party SANs and industry standard NAS offerings; and Any-to-any transport, including compressed or uncompressed IP (2022-6) and SDI/baseband. The new control surface also enables advanced levels of user interface customization. Media companies can now optimize their control surfaces for specific requirements and use cases. Versio 3.0 also brings the following capabilities to integrated playout operations: The Zenium™ workflow management platform, which provides an agile software engine for designing, deploying and managing extensible, customizable software-defined workflows. Component-based architecture, enabling faster, easier access to new technologies and precise, flexible control of workflows.

Al Aan TV Selects Harris Broadcast for Transition to HD

Harris Broadcast announced that it is on air with a new, end-to-end, file-based HD broadcast solution at Al Aan Television. From its base in Dubai Media City, pan-Arab satellite channel Al Aan broadcasts free to air and has an extensive online presence, covering women related issues, news and current affairs from the unique perspective of Arab women. Launched in 2006, the station now has a significant following. In support of a phased migration to HD, Al Aan selected Harris Broadcast to manage the transition and implement a highly secure, flexible and efficient workflow. The fully integrated, end-to-end media content management and channel playout solution enables Al Aan to centralize and simplify the entire content lifecycle, automate labor-intensive processes and easily repurpose content for multiple delivery platforms. As part of a project to further boost its reach and play out large amounts of content in many different formats, Al Aan has expanded on its existing video servers with a network of Harris Broadcast HD/SD Nexio(R) server and storage solutions, along with Nexio(R) Motion intelligent media movement software, which allows Al Aan to customize software defined workflows uniquely to their operations and save labor. The new installation is designed with a high level of redundancy, including dual ADC(TM) automation platforms. The new system was designed and implemented internally by Al Aan engineering team, supported by Harris Broadcast. Together, they developed all the necessary interfaces and configurations. Al Aan intends to move its entire operation to HD. As a first step, Harris Broadcast supported its move from SD playout to 16:9 aspect ratio, to secure viewers acceptance.

Doordarshan Selects Harris Broadcast for Nationwide Digital Transition

Harris Broadcast announced it has been selected by national broadcaster Doordarshan to deploy a new DVB-T2 transmission infrastructure across the country. The first of two transmission contracts awarded to Harris Broadcast adds HD channels to digital multiplexes in four major metropolitan areas. Each facility will be served with a new 6kW Harris Broadcast Maxiva ULX DVB-T2 transmitter. The second contract is for 19 Maxiva ULX transmitters, which will be used to roll out digital transmission to the regions of India. In the first instance, these will carry standard definition channels in their multiplexes, but the flexibility of the transmitter and infrastructure design allows for an easy upgrade to HD when the time comes.
