OFS Announces Higher DWDM Capacity over TeraWave ULL Optical Fiber with Nokia Commercial Ultra-Wideband C+L-Band System at OFS 2017

OFS will showcase the capacity and un-regenerated reach of Nokia's 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) Ultra-wideband C+L- band DWDM system over OFS' TeraWaveTM ULL optical fiber, helping to reduce cost-per-bit of transport across the ultra-long haul distances needed to connect hyper-scale datacenters. TeraWave ULL optical fiber has the available effective area for a terrestrial fiber, allowing maximum suppression of non-linear penalties that limit the reach of high capacity, coherent modulation formats. The cost-per-bit of fully lighting a TeraWave ULL optical fiber can be up to 50% lower than the cost-per-bit of fully lighting a G.652 fiber by avoiding the high cost of regeneration to meet reach targets. The Nokia 1830 PSS optical networking platform achieves ultra-long haul performance at 200G (using the 8QAM modulation format) and extended metro/DCI reach at high spectral efficiencies. The OFS TeraWave ULL ITU-T G.654.E optical fiber reduces amplifier noise by its ultra-low nominal loss of 0.168 dB/km and minimizes non-linear distortion by its large effective area of 125 microns squared. The waveguide of TeraWave ULL optical fiber was designed to minimize both micro- and macrobending losses in the L-band for good terrestrial cable performance and excellent splice performance. For extended metro/DCI applications, TeraWave ULL optical fiber can support 400 Gb/s up to 300 km over 100 km spans without Raman amplification on the Nokia 1830 platform. With a hybrid Raman-EDFA amplifier, TeraWave ULL optical fiber can support 200 Gb/s transport up to 4,500 km un-regenerated over 100 km spans. These link budgets assume realistic cable losses and margin for field deployment, using commercial gear. OFS' TeraWave ULL optical fiber helps to cost effectively achieve the longest available un-regenerated reach for both traditional and cloud transport networks, where maximum capacity can be achieved by using advanced coherent modulation formats and C+L-band wavelengths.
OFS Announces Three New Fiber in the Home Products

OFS announced three new Fiber in the Home Products - the InvisiLight® Drop Solution, the SlimBox™ Wall Plate, and an ultra-compact 80 x 80 Module for the InvisiLight Indoor Living Unit (ILU) Solution. Service providers are installing fiber not just to the home but also inside the home to reach indoor Optical Network Terminals (ONTs). This poses unique challenges for service providers, which are addressed by fast, low skill installation that blends into the customer's décor. To continue addressing these needs, OFS is launching three new compact solutions for the living unit. The new InvisiLight Drop Solution enables a service provider to make a seamless transition from OFS' EZ-Bend® rugged outdoor cable to the InvisiLight ILU Solution. It offers a faster, virtually invisible way to extend OFS EZ-Bend drop cable from outside to inside the living unit by eliminating the demarcation point, for a more efficient overall installation. The installer simply removes a length of the EZ-Bend drop cable's outer jacket to expose the InvisiLight fiber inside, then uses the existing patented InvisiLight installation process to reach a wall outlet or wall mount ONT. terminate and connect the fiber to a desktop ONT, an installer can use the SlimBox Wall Plate. This discreet new wall plate serves as an indoor wall-mounted fiber termination point for up to two factory or field-connectorized drops or spliced pigtails. It is compatible with common wall electrical boxes and offers flexible fiber routing options with access ports on the top, bottom and through the back of the module. The new 80x80 (mm) Module is a 70% smaller version of the popular InvisiLight adapter module. It can hold a new smaller spool with up to 40 meters of fiber with a variety of spool options. OFS also supports a range of shuttered adapters. The new module is offered as part of a complete kit for the InvisiLight ILU Solutions. The InvisiLight Drop Solution, SlimBox Wall Plate and 80 x 80 InvisiLight Module are being presented at the OFS booth, 306, at FTTH Connect conference June 13 -15, Gaylord Opryland, Nashville, Tennessee.
OFS Introduces TeraWave SCUBA Optical Fiber

OFS announced a breakthrough in ocean fiber technology with the introduction of TeraWave SCUBA Optical Fiber, offering a combination of the largest effective area, excellent cabling performance in the C- and L-bands, and low attenuation. These features enable reliable coherent transmission at 100 Gb/s and beyond over trans-oceanic distances at the highest channel counts. The fiber has ultra large effective area (153 µm2) that reduces nonlinearities, and ultra-low attenuation (0.155 dB/km at 1550 nm) that reduces signal loss. Together these enable the launch of higher signal power into the span and reduce amplifier noise. TeraWave SCUBA Optical Fiber is optimized for ultra-long haul networks (up to 12,000 km) using advanced modulation formats and coherent detection, such as transoceanic networks where extreme distances between shore end terminals limit the optical signal-to-noise ratio for DWDM transmission. Compared to earlier generations of submarine fibers, TeraWave SCUBA Optical Fiber reduces the performance limitations introduced by fiber nonlinearities and amplifier noise, thereby supporting higher spectral efficiency and longer repeater spacing. Applications without repeaters, such as coastal festoons and deep-water crossings, can also take advantage of the large effective area of TeraWave SCUBA Ocean Fiber, which permits higher power handling capacity without additional distortion, meaning more channels at higher speeds over longer distances before amplification is required. TeraWave SCUBA Optical Fiber is manufactured using OFS' proprietary manufacturing process, which produces a fiber with low water peak (LWP) performance and ultra-low polarization mode dispersion (PMD). It is fully compliant with the ITU G.654 standard for cutoff-shifted fiber.
