Indiana Regulators Agree to Revisit Rejection of NIPSCO Rate Case Settlement
Oct 15 15
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission will revisit a rejected settlement agreement between Northern Indiana Public Service Co. and intervenors tied to the utility's proposed electric rate case and grid modernization plan. NIPSCO filed a petition in September asking the IURC to reconsider its rejection of a settlement the utility reached with the state's consumer advocate and industrial customers on its plan. (Cause Nos. 44370 and 44371) NIPSCO entered into an agreement that calls for the utility to stop collecting under the previously approved seven-year plan, and credit all money collected, less than $1 million in total, back to customers with interest. The agreement also calls for NIPSCO to file an electric base rate case before the end of the year and refile an updated electric infrastructure modernization plan with the IURC, incorporating the required level of project details as agreed to by the parties. The IURC announced the settlement agreement was not in the public interest because, if approved, it would allow an insufficient level of detail as far as what projects will be completed and when they'll be completed.
