6WIND Announces Availability of Mirantis Certified Fuel Plugin for Openstack Virtual Networking Acceleration

6WIND announced general availability for its Mirantis certified 6WIND Virtual Accelerator Fuel Plugin. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator is software that provides accelerated virtual switching and networking features for virtual infrastructures to enable Network Function Virtualization (NFV), data center virtualization and network appliance virtualization on Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) servers. Hypervisor bottlenecks within virtual infrastructures reduce software application performance, slowing adoption of NFV and limiting the scale of data centers and network appliances beyond 10G. To solve these bottlenecks and provide cost-effective networking solutions, 6WIND Virtual Accelerator is installed on the hypervisor. It delivers the required performance and functionality to NFV Infrastructure (NFVI), and data center and network appliance virtualization by bringing acceleration to Open vSwitch (OVS) and Linux bridge, and preserving standard Linux commands (tcpdump, iptables, IPsec/XFRM, etc.) for ease of deployment and operation. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator enhances virtual infrastructure with the following key features: Mature solution for high performance I/O leveraging DPDK, with multi-vendor NIC support, Accelerated virtual switching (Open vSwitch and Linux bridge) and networking (Overlays, Filtering/NAT, IP Forwarding, IPsec) using the fast packet processing algorithms, Supports existing workloads through standard Virtio drivers and Scalable software-based switching enables Service Chaining.

6WIND Announces Upgrade to OpenStack NFV Test Drive Platform

6WIND has announced an upgrade to its OpenStack NFV Test Drive platform on Advantech servers comprising 40GE wire speed connectivity on Ubuntu OpenStack compute nodes. The new compute nodes are fully integrated into the existing OpenStack environment delivering a choice of OpenStackdistributions and 10/40GE connectivity. The NFV Test Drive platform includes 6WIND Virtual Accelerator which delivers wire speed performance and resource optimization for KVM hypervisors. Network Operators, Application Vendors and Integrators can now test drive their software applications, deployed as virtual machines on OpenStack compute nodesthat are configured with 6WIND Virtual Accelerator, and observe increased forwarding performance across 10 or 40GE networks. Hypervisor bottlenecks reduce software application performance, slowing adoption of NFV and limiting the scale of data centers beyond 10G. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator accelerates Open vSwitch within OpenStack deployments without disrupting the KVM hypervisors, SDN Controllers or other management functions. Network Operators leverage 6WIND Virtual Accelerator to scale and optimize system resources providing virtual applications with bare metal performance without resorting to hardware workarounds such as SR-IOV or PCI passthrough that break virtualization. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator enables high performance OpenStack NFV infrastructure with the following key features: Mature solution for high performance I/Os leveraging DPDK, with multi-vendor NIC support, and accelerated virtual switching (Open vSwitch and Linux bridge) and networking (Overlays, Filtering/NAT, IP Forwarding, IPsec). 6WIND Virtual Accelerator supports existing workloads through standard Virtio drivers. Scalable software-based switching enables Service Chaining.

6WIND Announces Integration with Mirantis Openstack to Simplify Joint Customer Deployments for High Performance Data Centers and Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure

6WIND announced integration with Mirantis OpenStack to simplify joint customer deployments for high performance data centers and Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI). 6WIND Virtual Accelerator™, which is hypervisor acceleration software, will integrate an OpenStack Fuel plugin for increased application throughput and efficiency in KVM environments. Both companies have worked together to release a Mirantis certified 6WIND Virtual Accelerator Fuel plugin. Developed in open source, Fuel provides an intuitive, GUI-driven experience for deployment and management of a variety of OpenStack distributions and plugins. Hypervisor bottlenecks reduce application performance, slowing adoption of NFV and limiting the scale of data centers beyond 10G. Based on DPDK, 6WIND Virtual Accelerator provides a packet processing solution for a full-featured and high performance virtual networking infrastructure allowing: High performance I/Os leveraging DPDK, with multi-vendor NIC support; High performance virtual switching (Open vSwitch and Linux bridge) and networking (Overlays, Filtering/NAT, IP Forwarding, IPsec); Support for existing workloads through standard Virtio drivers. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator's Fuel plugin automates the deployment of DPDK-based hypervisor acceleration in Mirantis OpenStack for virtual applications to scale from 10 to 40 to 100 Gbps throughput without disrupting the KVM hypervisors, SDN Controllers or OpenStack. 6WIND Virtual Accelerator includes full synchronization with the OS networking stack and zero configuration for Linux architectures, benefiting its Fuel plugin users with flexibility to automatically scale system resources according to application bandwidth requirements.
