Abaco Systems Inc. Enhances Long Term Support for VME Users with Innovative Solution

Abaco Systems Inc. announced Vivo, an innovative solution that provides long term support for users of the VME architecture, enabling customers to maximize their return on investment, minimize long term cost of ownership and ensuring the long term viability of VME. The IDT TSI148 VMEbus bridge, which provides VME users with the ability to interconnect their existing systems to PCI Express processors and peripherals, has gone end-of-life (EOL). In response, Abaco has developed Vivo, an FPGA-based solution that replicates the functionality of the EOL device and thus mitigates customer concerns about VME obsolescence. Eliminating the need to design, qualify and certify a new system platform based on an alternative architecture also saves customers substantial time and money. Vivo provides 2eSST support for full VITA 1.5 capability, as well as hardware byte swapping including byte, half-word and word for complete compatibility between big-endian/little-endian architectures. A master/slave interface with A16, A24 and A32 addressing modes is also supported. Vivo is compatible with the TSI148 via Linux and VxWorks APIs, meaning a straightforward, disruption-free transition for customers. As the IP for Vivo is owned by Abaco Systems, long term availability of the device is assured, and it will be incorporated into future generations of Abaco’s VMEbus single board computers based on Intel and Power Architecture technology.
Abaco Systems Announces FORCE2 Open Reference Computing Environment for Cost-Effective Development of Certifiable Applications Compliant with the Face Initiative

Abaco Systems announced the FORCE2 Open Reference Computing Environment designed to support the planned development of safety-critical, DO-254/DO-178 certifiable applications compliant with the FACE initiative. The FORCE2 will be demonstrated at Quad-A (The Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit: Atlanta, GA April 28-30). A rugged, pre-integrated small form factor system for mission computing and avionics display, the FORCE2 comprises a high TRL (technology readiness level) SBC314 3U VPX single board computer and graphics card housed in a robust enclosure to deliver unprecedented levels of performance in demanding video and image applications. The FORCE2 is highly differentiated from alternative solutions in that it will be supported by DO-254 artifacts suitable for use in systems requiring Design Assurance Level (DAL) A, the highest level of assurance. The FACE (Future Airborne Capability Environment) approach is a government-industry software standard and business strategy for acquisition of affordable software systems that promotes innovation and rapid integration of portable capabilities across global defense programs. The Open Group FACE Consortium was formed in 2010 to define an open avionics environment for all military airborne platform types. Its aims are, among others, to leverage the interoperability and portability of open standards to ensure that more capabilities reach the warfighter faster and at lower cost, and to stimulate innovation and competition within the avionics industry. The FORCE2 features either a 1.4GHz quad-core or a 1.8GHz 8-core NXP (formerly Freescale) QoriQ Power Architecture processor with up to 4GBytes of memory. Advanced graphics capability is provided by an AMD Radeon E8860 GPU with 2GBytes of DDR5 memory. A range of avionics I/O is supported including ARINC-429 and MIL-STD-1553. DVI and VGA video outputs are featured.

Abaco Systems announced the GRA113 3U VPX Rugged High Performance Graphics Board. The GRA113 represents the latest development in Abaco's growing range of products based on NVIDIA’s GPU technology. The innovative GRA113, which is designed for the most demanding applications, is especially notable for its unique support of configurable video outputs, providing customers with both flexibility and cost reduction by allowing a single board to be deployed where previously multiple boards would have been required. At the heart of the GRA113 is the processing power of the latest NVIDIA Maxwell 640-core GPU, enabling it to deliver up to twice the performance of its predecessor, the GRA112. In line with Abaco’s commitment to maximizing the long term value of customer investments, the GRA113 is form-, fit- and function compatible with the GRA112, allowing customers to achieve a substantial uplift in performance with minimal cost or disruption. Because its power envelope is similar to that of the GRA112, the GRA113 offers superior performance/watt characteristics, making it ideal for SWaP-constrained applications such as small ground vehicles with their typical mix of display resolutions and standards. As well as graphics applications, customers can leverage the massively parallel compute capability of the GRA113 for GPGPU (general-purpose computing on graphics processing units) such as ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance), radar and sonar. The GRA113 is unique in its ability to enable customers to integrate multiple display types including legacy technologies in a single chassis slot, saving valuable space, power and cost. The GRA113 is available in three variants: dual channel, quad channel and dual channel plus legacy.
