University of Bristol has announced that Monika Gierszewska will become the new director of its leading business incubator. She will take up the reins at the Bristol SETsquared Centre on March 1, 2016, bringing with her a wealth of experience in the technology sector, supporting start-ups and driving innovation. Monika will work alongside Nick Sturge, Director of Engine Shed, to build on the success of the high-tech, high-growth business incubator, which is part of the national SETsquared collaboration between the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Surrey. Monika Bringing experience from the London fintech scene, as well as from her own start-ups.
Khalifa University Opens Visual Signal Analysis and Processing VSAP Research Centre in Collaboration with University of Bristol in the UK

Khalifa University has officially opened the Visual Signal Analysis and Processing VSAP Research Centre in collaboration with the University of Bristol in the UK. The opening coincided with the first VSAP workshop which hosts eminent international speakers from both academia and the industry who are working within the area of signal image and video processing and computer vision. The VSAP Research Centre's mission is to become a recognised leader in image and video processing research and to promote the creation of transformative technologies that will benefit the UAE's knowledge-based economy thus improving the well-being of individuals everywhere. Its laboratory is designed to conduct research around three main application domains: Surveillance and Machine Vision Video Communications and Image Security and Biometrics and Bio-Imaging. The capabilities of the VSAP research centre were displayed at the workshop through structured demonstrations and poster presentations to the KU community and visitors from national and international institutions and organisations. In addition the workshop included tutorial sessions and keynote talks on selected topics that are directed towards the interests of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty interested in visual signal analysis and processing within the UAE.
University of Bristol Appoints John Iredale as New Pro Vice-Chancellor for Health

Professor John Iredale has been appointed as the University of Bristol's new Pro Vice-Chancellor for Health. He will take up the post on 18 January 2016. Professor Iredale is currently Regius Professor of Medical Science, Head of the School of Medicine and
Vice-Principal (Health Services) at the University of Edinburgh. He was Deputy Chair for Clinical Medicine in REF 2014. The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health) is a new role that will provide leadership across the University health community, and will work closely with Bristol Health Partners and key regional, national and international partners to enable the University to deliver greater impact in health research, innovation and outcomes and medical and health education.
