Khazanah Nasional Berhad's sale of 98% stake in Silterra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. to a Chinese party has been called off, sources said. The sale has been aborted as per directives of government, Business Times reported. “The sale to the Chinese party has been aborted, but SilTerra may still be up for sale to a Malaysian party,” an industry source said. Khazanah board, at a meeting in November decided to abort the sale to a Chinese semiconductor player it had been in talks with, New Straits Times reported. “Apart from saving some 1,000 Malaysian jobs at SilTerra and its supporting industries, the government is also mindful that SilTerra’s operations are vital to training curriculums at local universities, along with the fact that the country’s semiconductor industry remains attractive to both new and existing investors,” noted a source. Khazanah did not respond to Business Times’ email query on SilTerra on December 9, 2014, New Straits Times reported.
