The TCW Group announced that it has made two senior-level hires which further strengthen the firm’s legal and compliance areas. Frank Gioia has joined TCW’s Compliance department as a Senior Vice President and Head of Investment Control. He will lead the firm’s guideline monitoring efforts and work closely with operations, information technology, the trading desks and client services. He is based in TCW’s Los Angeles headquarters and reports to Jeff Engelsman, Global Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to TCW, Gioia was the Compliance Product Manager for Charles River Development, a premier provider of automated systems for front- and middle-office investment management functions. Dipo Ashiru has joined TCW as a Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel. He brings significant alternatives experience to TCW, and will also be responsible for a wide range of legal matters. He is based in New York City and reports to Meredith Jackson, TCW’s General Counsel. He joins TCW from KKR, where he served as an adviser and senior counsel to the firm’s diversified private equity, credit and hedge funds platform.

The TCW Group, Inc. announced that Jeff Nuruki, CFA, has joined the firm as a Senior Vice President for the Emerging Markets team. In this role, he is responsible for credit research in the oil and gas and consumer sectors. He is based in TCW’s Los Angeles headquarters and reports to Javier Segovia, head of Emerging Markets Corporate Credit Research. Nuruki has nearly 20 years of experience as an emerging markets credit analyst, corporate valuation analyst and management consultant. Prior to joining TCW, he was a senior credit analyst at Western Asset Management Company (WAMCO), where he helped develop the firm’s emerging markets corporate credit business. Prior to WAMCO, he held various senior-level research and consulting positions with Standard & Poor’s, BearingPoint and KPMG.

The TCW Group, Inc. announced the launch of the TCW Developing Markets Equity Fund, a mutual fund focused on equity investing in emerging and frontier markets. The TCW Developing Markets Equity Fund invests in the equity of emerging and frontier market companies, as well as companies that have substantial emerging markets exposure from an asset, revenue or profitability perspective. The Fund utilizes quantitative screens to narrow the investment universe, and then, through fundamentals-based research, integrates top-down country and sector allocation with bottom-up stock selection to identify investments with superior growth profiles and attractive valuations. The TCW Emerging Markets team has extensive experience managing emerging markets equities. Its TCW Worldwide Opportunities Strategy, launched in 1987, is one of the longest-standing emerging markets balanced strategies in the marketplace. This new fund continues to build on TCW’s emerging markets franchise, which has some of the most experienced portfolio managers in the industry and manages over $10 billion in assets.
