SEVEN Networks Launches Open Channel(R) Edge Mobile Analytics
Feb 19 14
SEVEN Networks launched Open Channel(R) Edge Mobile Analytics, a software platform that provides device-centric mobile analytics on heterogeneous networks. The platform provides near real-time, historical and predictive per-user views of application, network, device and quality of experience (QoE) metrics. Edge Mobile Analytics enhances operators' ability to understand what is happening on subscriber devices at the application, system and network levels, automatically correlating data to identify causal links between variables. For example, carriers gain intelligence on the effect of application and network behavior on device battery life, LTE rollout and Wi-Fi offload effects, network efficiency and connection failures by device and location, subscriber quality of experience by location and time of day and more. Unlike analytics solutions that are solely network based, Edge Mobile Analytics captures metrics directly from the user's device -- the most important edge of the network. Operators get deeper, highly actionable intelligence with maximum visibility into the moment-to-moment subscriber experience. Also unlike competing solutions, Open Channel Edge Analytics integrates with other Open Channel products for traffic optimization, policy management and Wi-Fi offloading. By using the products in combination, network operators dramatically increase their ability to take action on mobile intelligence learned through Edge Mobile Analytics. The platform also provides a perfect complement to traditional deep-packet inspection (DPI) or network-based analytics solutions with device-centric visibility of many variables. Open Channel Edge QoE Analytics is the first of several planned products to be released from the Open Channel Edge product line. Edge QoE Analytics provides deep, near real-time insight into heterogeneous network performance and subscriber quality of experience (QoE). Among many composite performance metrics, the solution employs a SEVEN proprietary measurement of end-user QoE based upon a broad range of variables, including latency, packet loss, jitter and usable bandwidth. These metrics are coupled with contextual information about the device, location, signal strength and current network, meaning that Edge QoE Analytics focuses on a broader set of inputs than traditional QoE solutions. This allows the platform to very precisely represent the actual subscriber experience at the device level.
SEVEN Networks Announces Promotion of Two Senior Technology Executives
Jul 30 13
SEVEN Networks announced the promotion of two senior technology executives, Chaitali Sengupta and Ari Backholm. In her new position as chief technology officer (CTO), Sengupta will be responsible for SEVEN Networks product strategy, system architecture and new technology. She will work closely with the engineering team to drive new product development and delivery. She will also lead the product management team, whose responsibilities include product roadmaps, new product requirements and PRDs. Previously, Sengupta was CTO and co-founder of SNRLabs, which was acquired by SEVEN Networks earlier this year. Before that she was a distinguished member of the technical staff at Texas Instruments, and was named to the MIT Technology Review list of the 100 Top Innovators Under 35. Ari Backholm has been promoted to senior vice president of analytics and market development. Backholm has been with SEVEN Networks since 2005, and has played a central role in the design and development of the company's Open Channel family of mobile traffic management and optimization software. Before SEVEN Networks, Backholm was co-founder and executive vice president of Smartner Information Systems, and also served as research director for Sedecon Consulting. Both executives report to Ross Bott, SEVEN Networks president and CEO.
SEVEN Networks Introduces Plug-And-Play In-Network Deployment for Open Channel Product Family
Jun 17 13
SEVEN Networks announced a significant enhancement to its Open Channel family of products that lets wireless carriers quickly and easily deploy the server component in-network. The new release gives carriers another deployment option alongside hosted deployment, which was available with the previous version of the software. In-network deployment is the preferred choice of most mobile carriers for long-term, large-scale use. However, in-network solutions are typically complex and time consuming to deploy. The newest version of the Open Channel software solves this problem with plug-and-play in-network deployment. SEVEN Networks engineers developed the new software to run on two single rack unit servers for an initial deployment. Additional servers can be added to scale to tens of millions of users. The software leverages industry standard open source operating system and database software, reducing deployment costs and complexity. It requires minimal network integration and no custom coding, dramatically reducing the time it takes for the software to be deployed and operational. In addition to the in-network deployment model, the Open Channel platform also offers a cloud deployment model for the server component. This deployment model is well suited for initial device launches while in-network deployment is being prepared. The hosted model offers the shortest possible deployment timeline. Each operator has the flexibility to choose the deployment model that works for their business. Regardless of the model chosen for the server component, the software also includes a client component that resides on the mobile handset. Extending control to the mobile handset enables management and optimization of mobile traffic before it impacts the network, reducing costs and conserving network resources. The product within the product line is Open Channel Signaling Optimization, which consistently and substantially reduces Android device signaling by transparently detecting redundant traffic patterns and caching unnecessary network requests. The server software then monitors for updates, so that the client connects to the network only when updates are available. Open Channel products with plug-and-play in-network deployment are available now from the SEVEN Networks sales force.
